I returned mine; didn't like the stem design. I was going to fit them with forever stems but the stems that come with it are glued into a wooden plug tenon. Do you mind me asking if you had to pay for return shipping? My order's shipping charge to me was pretty high (something like $14 or $15). If you had to pay return shipping as well, that'd really add up.

The plastic stem is my one gripe for what is otherwise a very nice pipe. I found it to be an odd decision, especially with the new cobs that appeared recently with Italian acrylic stems. Oh well. Missouri Meerschaum is selling replacement reverse calabash stem for $5.

yes @captain, that could be a work around. maybe they will rethink it. the first generation Freehand's were notorious for splitting shanks and they eventually corrected that.

The stem issue is a small one. About a $00.50 fix for the wooden plug. Then the cost of a stem. And time at the drill press. When I got my 2015 wasp #205 I had a small problem with a leak at the wooden plug. Simple fix took me a couple of minutes with a small file to reshape the mortice and tendon.

I would certainly give feedback to Phil Morgan, they like to hear constructive criticism...a good point made, and should have been part of the construction, even if it costed a few more dollars.
