The basic American understanding of Haiku is simple... 3 lines, the first line containing 5 syllables, the second line 7 syllables, the third line, 5 syllables again... something like this...
"As I smoke this pipe I have to light it a lot A pain in the arse"
I suggest that any entrant contribute some small thing (a sample of tobacco, an inexpensive pipe, etc) and the aggregate of the contributions be awarded to the best Haiku as judged by our esteemed moderators.
If this is contrary to the rules and regulations of the forum, I humbly withdraw the suggestion.
As I am a professional writer, I will not participate... yet, I will contribute to the *Prize Pot* a spanking new Missouri Meerschaum Ozark Mountain Hardwood Pipe.
If you require further clarification of the Haiku form, I am at your service.

I think this is a great idea, although I'm not sure how the prizes will work logistically. Would it perhaps be better to have one prize and maybe more competitions? Just my 2 cents worth.
I also think that the competition should be anonymous. Maybe if entries are PMed to someone and at the end of a certain time (set by Dramatwist) then that person will publish them for Dramatwist's judgement. I'm happy to help out here. You can pm them to me. I'm also happy to shut up since my opinion wasn't asked.
this is JUST a thought. What do you think DT?

Funny ... I did the same thread 4 years ago on another forum because this one had popped into my head:
The dog lays sunning Crisp air whisps away the smoke Good day for a pipe
... and:
The cob stripped of corn A bowl with shank and stem formed Warm sweet raisin taste

Lady Margret hosted a Limeric Contest last year. Was quite fun reading all the posts. She gave the winner,me.a customized cob and a hand made pipe rest.I believe she held it in the General Discussion forum. As such it would only be appropriate if I recluse myself as well. That and I ain't got a clue to Haiku. @legend Lover , Your opinion is very important.Enjoy the questions and as always my main advice is Keep it simple.Cause I'm simple minded.

actually, i merely offered the prize and approached the moderators, they came up with the contest idea and decided where to put it, but left it up to me to pick the winner. personally I think it fits better in the humor and fun forum, i think it tended to get buried in the general discussion forum by, general discussion, lol.

Might put a link in you signature line to help people find it.You are a prolific contributor so it should garner a bit of attention.
