Yesterday a bird got trapped in my gutter downspout.Because the bottom was clogged with leaves it couldn't get out. When I cleaned the leaves out the bird flew away..I love birds.I think they're one of nature's most beautiful creatures.I put food and water out for them every day.I spend much time sitting on my porch smoking my pipe and watching and listening to them.To be able to help one out of a tough situation was an uplifting experience.

Well done...With so many stories of cruelty going on around the world and in the news, it's nice to hear (or read) something like this.

Good going Larry!
My cousin moved to Marysville Calif home some years back... proud that he had the largest oak tree around, it shaded the entire house.
The tree was a crows roost.... hundreds would flock to it and they all tried to out-caw each other and scream all night... he would go out and scream at them, and they would resume when his head hit the pillow.
When I lived in Hollister Ca. We had a pair of white owls that lived for years in my huge palm in the back yard, and every year they raised more babies. One fell out of the nest and we contacted the wild animal rescue, and they told us to leave it alone... I think the cats got it.
Once, the wife and I was on the back deck and one of the parents flew down right in front of us, only to turn at ground level and fly upward and held position face to face for a second... truly majestic with a 6 foot wing span.

Nice, thanks for sharing. We've rescued two hummingbirds in the last couple of years. One somehow got stuck in a light fixture in the garage, and was fine. The other bashed into a window and was stunned. We were amazed at this tiny creature suddenly seeming so tame, as if it knew we were trying to help. We mixed up some sugar water and it gradually came back to life.

Good work on the rescue.
There is noting quite so satisfying as a wild critter rescue.
I once found two young owls in one of our irrigation ditches. Try as they could, they did not have the strength to lift themselves from the water. I got down on my fat belly to reach in and lift them out one at a time. I was sure they would peck my hands but they were quite docile. I set them on the headgate frame to dry and rest. They were quite exhausted. There they sat staring at me. One gave out with a hoot and I knew then they would be fine. I was impressed by how weightless they were. After a time off they flew.

Good job. I like the birds too. I help them by sniping the stray cats. When I saw the title of the thread, my mind set it to the tune of "I Started a Joke", and it stuck. I hope that you catch it. 😎

That a very kind thing Larry, I was taught on the farm not to abuse animals but my 6ft 4 inch Grandfather, he was German and had Hands that large gloves were tight, hated animal abuse. He kept Molases in large barrels in his barn and I used to take a paddle and drizzle it over the hay where the animals were eating. One day a neighbor came to buy a bucket of molasses, I scooped his bucket full, put lid on and gave it to him, his horse moved when he swung the bucket, he kicked the horse on the belly as hard as he could, my Grandfather slapped him silly, took the bucket emptied it back in the big barrel and told him in French to hit the road. I was in awe and scared as I had never seen that side of him. Fussing in French he told me to respect the animals, you did a very human kind thing Larry, you're a good man.
