I've usually adhered to the 48 hour rule. What are your practices?

I have eough briars to allow 48 to 60 hours rest between smokes. Cobs and other workhorses....sometimes less, sometimes more.

When I get my hands on more pipes and I smoke more than once every couple of weeks I'll let you know.

I don't think about it really. It's not uncommon for me to carry just one pipe when I leave the house and smoke that pipe all day.
If I am home though, I seldom smoke the same pipe twice the same day - more to enjoy more of my pipes than any effort to rest them though.

I like this philosophy...when I was a child, I remember people smoked the same pipe all day, everyday and it didn't seem to be a problem to them. I know things have changed and perhaps our knowledge of the wood-chemistry etc. has perhaps increased, but even with the pipes I DO have, I rotate them cos it's nice to change things up a bit.

When home I rotate pipes from bowl to bowl just to enjoy the pipes more than anything else.

My morning commute and then all day pipes are usually cobs. On the weekends I rotate my briars, but will occasionally smoke a meer all day.

I'll follow the 2-day method of rest. Probably could just rest one day sometimes as I smoke xtra dry baccy. No aros helps.

I tend to smoke the same pipe all day unless I'm switching between blends.

I think resting a pipe for 48 hours is overkill. I can smoke two or three bowls in the same pipe, let it rest overnight and it's good to smoke the next morning if I want to. The key is wiping the pipe out with pipe cleaners after each smoke.
My grandfather would smoke the same pipe all day long. Wipe out the bowl with a tissue or his handkerchief and then run a pipe cleaner through the stem, reload and smoke it all day long. The only rest his pipe got was when he was napping or sleeping.

I normally rest my pipes 24 to 48 hours. I never smoke the same pipe twice or more in a single day. I have plenty of pipes so rotating them is no big chore.

I rest most of them 48 hours or more, but 2 or 3 of them I often smoke every day, just can't resist, they make the tobac so tasty.

I never even think about resting a pipe. I have enough pipes to not worry, but if I am on a roll with a pipe, it might get 2 or 3 days in a row.

I tend to smoke the same pipe all day unless I'm switching between blends. Do you find that makes any difference to your smoking experience? Not really. I tend to smoke a single tin straight through (usually a ribbon cut oriental or a vaper flake) and only complement it a little with a different one (usually a coarse cut aromatic). Switching pipes, for me, is a bit about avoiding ghosting but mostly about getting the right cut in the right pipe. So it's not that I think I'll damage a pipe but that some pipes work the cut better. I usually use the same two pipes all week.

I have at least two or more of each type of pipe. So after diciding on blend/s I will load two or three pipes and then "I" rest.I'm not overly concerned with resting my pipes because I don't get a chance often to smoke more than a couple bowls in a day.If I do it's a party !

Truth of the matter is, if one cleans the pipe well between smokes,it's probaby OK to smoke for days, although I never did that. I know/knew those that did.

I try to let mine sit for a day but sometimes that doesn't happen. Always give a good cleaning though.

I thought the rule was 24, hence a 7-day rotation. That's what I follow, though since I have dedicated pipes and almost never smoke the same blend twice in a row it's not an issue for me.

I try to go 24 hours. I have 20 pipes but only a few I smoke regularly. On rare occasion, I’ll smoke the same pipe within 24 hours but it’s rare

My buddy Brad does that. Said it doesn’t hurt the pipes at all. He’s no expert but it’s working👍

moving on to the next pipe is a convenient justification for PAD. I'll sometimes smoke a pipe twice in a row, but a damp pipe tends to give me heartburn.

It depends on the pipe for me, and the tobacco that I have smoked.
I generally take 3 pipes to work with me, and smoke three bowls, one in each.
Although I get a dry smoke out of a Peterson system pipe, the well gets quite moist and benefits from drying for a few days. In another briar however, I can smoke the same blend after another, the key being the tobacco moisture. If i typically dry a flake for 10 seconds in a microwave to reduce the moisture, I can smoke to my hearts content...If I do not have a microwave and don't take the time to dry the tobacco, the pipe will need a rest.
I really like to pack a meer, a cob, and a briar in my daily (or on a weekend getaway) rotation....when I do so, I always feel that come what may, I have options if the mood strikes me.

I've always thought the 48-Hour Rule was one of those things spread by pipe carvers and retailers in order to convince people the needed to buy more pipes. Sort of like what jewelry stores do when they tell you a wedding ring should cost the same as two-months of your monthly salary or else you don't really love her.

I am a bit anal while smoking my pipes especially those that are smooth on the top of the bowl. I am constantly using my finger and some saliva to clean the top of the bowl after relighting. I will insert a pipe cleaner if the pipe starts to gurgle to soak up the moisture. When I am done smoking that pipe I use two pipe cleaners to clean out the stem. I bend both pipe cleaners in half and clean the sides of the bowl and soak up the moisture in the bottom. Most of the times that pipe will be ready the next day but I have enough pipes that it usually gets some rest anyway. If the particular bowl was good exceptionally I will smoke a second bowl no problem.
