I loved The Night Stalker and Night Strangler movies, and the TV version of Night Stalker. The books were very good, too. I was just watching an episode of Gunsmoke where Darren McGavin and Simon Oakland were two of the bad guys, and it got me thinking about the TV show again where they played Kolchak and editor Vincenzo. Anybody else a fan of the series?

Anybody else a fan of the series? The Night Stalker was short lived primarily due to a bad time slot, Friday night; consequently, there were only 15 episodes other than the pilot of which I'm aware. Supposedly, The Night Stalker was the inspiration for the more successful X-Files. The theme music is just so 70s Chicago. It's still on MeTV late night.

I have been a big fan from the beginning. I believe I have first editions of the books, too. I liked Strangler movie over Stalker because of the underground Seattle. That stuff always fascinated me. I do have the DVD's to all of it, as well. Dan Curtis production, who gave us Dark Shadows, which the Wife and I have watched all 1200 episodes at least twice.

Great show. You are a man of impeccable taste, Jim (except when it comes to eggs).

I preferred The Night Strangler movie and book over The Night Stalker. I wish they'd made it a regular movie series rather than a TV show. I once read what Richard Matheson had in mind for the third movie that was never made, and I'd have loved to have seen it. I have the complete Dark Shadows series, but haven't started watching them yet. Some day, I will, once I watch more of the shows I have DVR'd.

Count me in as a fan of the original Kolchak: The Night Stalker series. I really need to dust off my seersucker.

I've never had the patience for Dark Shadows. I keep telling myself I'll stick with it one of these days.....

I wonder if McGavin saved that hat? Most probably don't know he was actually a fairly accomplished character actor before he took that roll. It's definitely the one for which he's still most remembered. He passed in 2006. I would have buried him with that hat.

I wonder if McGavin saved that hat? I think it was used in another series, sort of a cameo. But I can't swear it was original. This is a Darin McGavin episode of Tales from the Darkside, which is a nod to Kolchak and Mike Hammer, whom he played in the fifties. The video repeats itself, so the whole thing is really over after 22 minutes. It's a must see if you like Kolchak or Hammer.

Mike Hammer Show and Riverboat. When I was researching my book on Anna May Wong I found out that she starred in a MH Episode with Keye Luke. In an interview with Keye Luke, he said he never did a picture with Anna. Well, he made no film and was not in any scene with her in this episode, so technically he was right. I was the first (yes, I am bragging) to dig out this info on Anna May, before the Web was really big. Here's my review from Phil's and my book. It should be able to be magnified to read it. The text file is long gone.

I always loved The Night Stalker and Kolchak. Watching a series on Netflix now based on short stories by Phil K. Dick. Great series, some better than others, but every one leaves you thinking.

that's impressive, David. Tip of the hat to you. Thank you. That was something I started (in my mind) in the mid seventies and was lucky to come across my coauthor, who is an experienced writer. He carried me during the time I had three neck operations. We're still close some twenty years on

Electric Dreams. I agree, it's uneven but all worth watching. The later episodes are most consistently better.

...great concept, think it could have been done better... Electric Dreams? Agreed. However, it's much better than what is on the 200+channels of vast wasteland. It seems like they are working with a very limited budget. And the stories have been out there for years and Hollywood didn't take it on. They would rather remake classics. I have said for years that there are too many great stories out there to keep remaking the same ones.

I'm a fan of Kolchak and the short-lived The Night Stalker TV series. I haven't seen it in years. I'll have to check it out on Me-TV. Electric Dreams on Netflix? I searched, but didn't find it.

The McGavin Night Stalker series was very good for it's time- the Watergate Era. Offbeat Investigative Reporters were the heroes of the day. Simon Oakland always filled his role with authority. I have not seen it since and wonder how it held up.

that guy was a real creepfest. Not to blame the victims, but it is hard to imagine leaving your windows and doors unsecured...he certainly exploited that, and his attacks were pretty close to home at the time.
