Paddy, have a great weeks vacation, take in the sites and smoke some pipesšš. I sure hope it snows heavy before you head back to Ireland. Rent a Ferrari and enjoy yourself. Never had that pleasure but I did rent an Alfa Romeo Spyder once in California. Spent the afternoon cruising Mt. Tamalpais. Picked up a blond teenage girl hitchhiking. She had the improbable name of "Summer Twist" and lived up to it. Turned out I knew her dad, though. Your story must have ended......ā the rise and fall of Tosh ā......lol. You can still rent an Alfa Romeo Spyder fairly inexpensive throughout Italy, if Paddy doesnāt want to rent a Ferrari. I owned a ā88 while living in Europe, the ONLY vehicle I didnāt return to the dealership in under 90 days of ownership. At the time the dealership held the note, that really helped the buyer in most cases....ie: Fiat, Skoda or Lada. The Lada was the best of those threeš

I just ordered one of these: No Buckle/Show Belt for Men Buckle Free Stretch Belt for Jeans Pants 1.38" Wide www.amazon.com/dp/B07FJLH98M/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_apa_i_0DjpCbKEJEVQVHope it works! My darn belts dig into me at times, and this would make things more comfortable. My belt probably played a decent part in my recent hospital stay, by severely irritating that particular spot. I've been on suspenders since, and they do a great job, but I don't always want to have to wear layers to hide them.

Around here suspenders are more common than not and I wear them with t-shirts. I have some fancier ones for dress up. I can't afford Tony Llama boots, but I can afford their suspenders.

Had an interview with another school today. I wasn't impressed with them, so I may turn it down even if it's offered to me.
Had a good couple smokes on the way back: Carter Hall and a burley-heavy blend.
Hope everyone's having a good day.
Cheers, JD

Had to go shopping with the wife and our "baby"...she has her own limo with me as the driver...think I'm kidding... We all collapsed when we got home...was a beautiful day to sit on the porch and have a smoke (part of a day).

They also told me that giving a kid a 50 was at times better than a 0. I mean, if the kid did 50 percent of the work, sure, but not if they didn't do squat.

It's hard to believe that that is what our education system has come to. My son failed a grade 2 years ago in middle school, know why? Because he didnt even try and his teachers just stood by and let it happen. Now he goes to a charter school so he can catch up. The teachers there are encouraging and often times call me and/or his mother to give updates on how he is doing. Often times praising him on how well he is doing. With teachers that actually care, he is now making all A's and B's and is on track to graduate when he was originally supposed to. Giving a 50 for no work is absurd. That would be like paying me for doing 1/2 a job even though I did nothing. But this is a participation trophy world afterall. jackdiamond I applaud you. Do not sell yourself short on what you believe in and what you want to do. The right job will come around. Thank you sir for being a GREAT teacher. We need more like you.

It's easy for me to stand now on the lofty ideals that my professors instilled in me, but I may be a piss poor teacher when the time comes. All of that said, if offered, I may take the job depending on other circumstances. I'm honestly hoping they don't extend an offer.

JD, I can only thank you for understanding this basic thought. What Josh has said is the crux of the issue and your response is critical to you being a good teacher. I used to teach Psychology, Sociology and History in High School during the "golden years" back in the 60's. I was fortunate enough to have some brilliant students. We showed them the interaction of not just that something happened but more importantly why is happened. Was a glorious 3 years, but not what the "administrators" wanted to have happen. I left teaching right after that. So glad to see that there are still some people willing to donate their life to their work...and that is what it is...your life showing others what they need to know to succeed.

Taking the job if offered is completely understandable. I know that having a job is good, not having one is bad (unless retired).
You may not be a teacher YET, but you show that you have values of a good one. It's not just a paycheck for you. If it was, youd dish out those 50% all day long and keep vodka in your coffee cup all day long.

I appreciate that, Walt. Unfortunately, I need to get some teaching on my resume (not to mention my having a wife and kid to support.) I may be getting a promotion at work, and if that happens, I can afford to be more selective. I'm very excited to teach, though. I think I'll have a good time if I can find the right school.

Most of us, whether we want to admit it or not, have worked jobs that we didn't want because that's what we had to do. Having a wife and kids is hard on idealistic dreams. If you can get some teaching experience on your resume, it might be worth a year. Just be sure to leave on your own terms. I don't envy you. Several of my family are teaching in very small school districts and they are doing pretty well and happy. But the state is about to tale over the Houston school district because the board was elected according to principles such as appearance and not qualifications. I think it's called a Cluster something m

I think it's called a Cluster something m I tend to agree, Ron. I've worked several jobs that I didn't want already. I did a 7 year stint at McDonald's because I needed the money. As to this job, it would only be through May, hopefully. I've got a few other applications out for jobs that start in August, so hopefully I'll land one of those. One school district in particular charmed me. I suppose I can put up with anything for a few months, so that would help. Whatever the circumstance, I'll be able to get through it. Endurance is perhaps my biggest strength.

You got me beat on endurance. 7 years at McD's? I lasted 3 hours at KFC and realized it wasnt for me. I went back to the fields throwing watermelons and cantaloupes 12 hours a day. That was many moons ago, before being married, before children. BUT if I had to, I'd tough it out now so my family could eat. Back then I just needed gas and beer money.

I worked with some good folks at McD's. One of them was an autistic kid who was the hardest damned worker I've ever seen. I worked for gas and beer money for a long while, then got married and paid the bills with it for a while. It was a good time.

Hope yours is better tonight! Down this way, a warm front has moved in and the temperature went from 10 degrees (F)a few hours ago to 30 with winds and clouds. We may get rain! Rain in January!?!! We have 5 to 8 inches of snow on the ground. I hate to think what will happen. Slush followed by a freeze when the warm front passes?

I was having trouble sleeping from around Thanksgiving until last week. Went to the doc and they adjusted my c-pap machine. I kept waking up choking and they figured that since I quit cigarettes I was breathing better and they lowered the pressure on the machine and I'm back averaging 6 hours a night. I wish it was something that easy for you Ted. Hope you get a good night's sleep tonight.
