The Cherokee were one of the "Five Civilized Tribes". They assimilated, fought with the whites against the other Indians, farmed, paid taxes and went to church. Didn't matter. They were run out of the state, every state, to the Indian Territory. I don't doubt that, but the same could be said against the whole spectrum of humanity... Oskar Schindler was a great man that saved many from extermination....the same could be said of whites, native Americans, Germans...etc, throughout history. In the new world there was certainly compassionate white men and women. I agree that overall the native Americans got a pretty raw deal...and they are still getting one, poverty and alcoholism are pretty prevalent in contemporary society on tribal lands, but that is another story. Same story, third volume.

My lawyer died. This might sound like the beginning of a joke, but it's not. Jim Dyer was a gentle giant of a man, with a big bushy beard, kind eyes, and a big laugh. Always ready with a joke. He defended the people who couldn't afford to pay him, so he never made much money. But he was loved by everyone who knew him. I had lost track of him about 20 years ago, and I just heard about his death that happened on the 13th. He also taught law for many years at South Texas College of Law. He leaves an opening in the world for a good lawyer and man. Damn. Sorry. It looks as if the world lost a good man.

Been able to straighten some boxes out two days in a row. Found a few jars I had missed, so I climbed on board The Shandygaff! Arrrrr. Actually, it's not a ship in literature but you guys know me with rules. This is extremely smooth, a tad salty, great for a Jack Tar like me. Organic food delivery came today. I already know the difference in some foods, but am curious about free range chicken. Dang, I think Brother #6 ( scrooge) needs to try this stuff. It sort of has a Five Brothers draw to it.

Secrets for the Chroniclers
I have posted a few times of my love of those yellow rubber roll-ups. No, not the kind for a quarter in a Petrol Station bathroom (Using Petrol in honor of our international members). These can be had at a few places for 5-7$. It would not be worth the post today, save that I misplaced a few tobaccos. I came across a tin (later on this) and my rubber roll up pouch. Unlike those plaid pouches these rubber ones roll up tightly. I am guessing this is four weeks later and the tobacco is still fresh. Has lost little to nothing.
The tin was a 100 gram Seven Seas Royal. It had dried out in between uses, but before I misplaced it again I hydrated it and used some wax paper between the tobacco and the lid. Opening it up today it was as fresh as I left it. Think Wax Paper Ladies and Gents. The kind grandma would wrap sandwiches in.
Just a couple tricks from an old codger that wants to keep this Hush Hush, Definitely Down Low, on the QT, and Strictly Confidential

My tin of kendal cream came wrapped (ie nicely folded) in a wax paper. First time I'd seen something like that as opposed to the paper that tinned tobacco comes wrapped in. That paper doesn't seem as waxy... To me anyway.

Anything wrapped in wax-paper looks fancier.

Date night with the wife. We went for some Chinese as usual and then home. She’s laying down and I’m having some holiday match in a stanwell freehand.

That makes me happy! It was a busy week for me ... cut down 4 dead trees on the property and stacked the wood, chipped the small stuff for mulch. Fixed my swamp cooler and did it in less than 3 trips to the hardware store which is a record, I believe! LOL Took my dogs down to the river for a swim on the hottest day and smoked a home-made Va/Per in the shade. Hosted a spontaneous BBQ with my step-son and stayed up way too late drinking bourbon and smoking Brown Bogie. Today, it's back to another stretch of 12's at the old Laboratory so I can rest and recuperate until my next day's off.

Darin , that sounds like fun, well for the most part. My older brother gave me a bottle of Bourbon on Monday. He almost always brings a batch of something he was given. This was Minnesota Small Batch at 90 proof. Well, I had to try it. Really good stuff, and labeled Bourbon, not just Whiskey. Not enough to drive me away from Kentucky Whiskey, but it will get an occasional pull. My old friend, Elmer, whom I mentioned in another thread, would sit with me and share a bottle and ask for a "pull." I received my Iwan Reis package today with their custom blends. Already had one and will post some notes later for the Chroniclers. Bully the Lionhearted tried to grab my cache, so he got booted from the room. For antb Legend Lover zambini Stanhill and of course all the rest of the USA Chroniclers and Internationals I may have missed... I hope your weekends are blessed. I hope you all get moments (many) of the peace that I have here and there... and make good use of them. Between USA and Points Distant my mind gets boggled and pleased at the same time for all of you wonderful people. @10furlongs I hope you'll share how the k-9 situation is going. Lady Margaret I am not sure how Darin got that picture of me, but since I am now "outed" just enjoy Ronv69 thanks for sharing personal thoughts. We all benefit when a brother shares Scott W I think you're almost ready to take that trip to Zeta Reticuli. See the above pic that Darin took of me. That's what our spacesuits look like
