Let's hear who your favorite wrestlers are and show some videos.
I have many I liked when I watched years ago: Haystacks Calhoun, Ivan and Nikita Koloff, Gene and Ole Anderson, Mil Mascaras, J.C. Dykes (he was a manager), among many others.

Here's another. As much as I hate Google, being able to see things I thought lost as a child is a wonder. Might add that Bruno Sammartino, unknownst to Buddy Rodgers, was told to do what he wanted to in the title match. Buddy was unaware and Bruno took the title in less than three minutes.

Hah! I just mentioned him. I never got to see him wrestle until he came from WWWF (yes, three W's back then) to the NWA, where he had to start his cred all over again

Oh man, I was a huge Dominic DeNucci fan in the 70's! Loved Heystack as well.

I remember sitting around the TV watching these guys! I love The Baron. Saw him in live matches here at the arena and auditorium. And, as he would say, "Dat's all you need to know!"

So a couple of my favorites in some of their non-wrestling roles:
El Mistico (Recognized as the best wrestler worldwide back in 2005)
El Hijo del Santo (Co-Headliner of the recognized best PPV of 1994)
And of course I have runs of both of their comic books.

I read that Calhoun's wife had to sow his clothes specially for him and that the first time he went to fight in Europe she forced him on a diet as she was worried he wouldn't fit in the airplane seat otherwise.

BTW, Bobo Brazil was considered the nicest man in wrestling by his peers, even though in some places, due to prejudice, he had to play by a different set of rules.

Baron Von Raschke Jack Brisco - Forever Fan Dick the Bruiser Rufus R. Jones, whom I was told never lost a match, but was told he would never win title due to color. I believe he always wound up tying when Wrestling Dory Funk, Jr. Johnny Valentine Crimson Knight, who was Big Bill Miller in a mask Mil Mascaras Black Jack Lanza, whom I guess was told he could not use the Pile Driver in StL, as it was his trademark, but never seen him use it here Greg Valentine

@cosmicbobo the piledriver has been banned here for a couple of decades now and was recently banned in the WWF (here we call it La Doble-U). It's a bully move that left way to many people permanently injured and the primo sign of a cheat and ungentlemanly wrestler. I can't believe athletic commisions allowed it for as long as they did.

Mil Mascaras had so many cool outfits and masks. I met Estrella Blanca (a real legend), who wrestled Mil Mascaras back in the day, and he told me that Mil Mascaras (a former national body building champion) worked really stiff. I think this helps explain why Mil Mascaras had such success with strong-style wrestling in Japan.

Back in the sixties and seventies it was used a lot, just not here. I like the Mexican name, too. Pretty cool. The commission we had here, I believe, left wrestling alone, as it was considered an exhibition. All those years dad and gramps told me it was phony, didn't realize that there were "shooter" matches and many did not go the way they were planned. I never cared. To me, it was watching the talent.

Here's some of Mil Mascaras outfits and masks. My personal favorite was his mariachi outfit:

As far as managers went, The Grand Wizard was quite a character. Let's not forget Capt Lou Albano and Classy Freddie Blassie.

Here's some of Mil Mascaras outfits and masks. My personal favorite was his mariachi outfit: Paused halfway through. Thanks, Zambini. He was also in some later Aztec Mummy flix. Been too many years to really remember, but when he was on the cover of a magazine I looked forward to that as much as a Jack Brisco or Von Raschke cover

BTW, my sort of Wrestling Revival came in the mid eighties when MTV combined with WWWF for the Rock Wrestling Connection. Cyndi Lauper, Captain Lou Albano, Sgt. Slaughter, Hulk, who was befriended by Mr. T. Rowdy Roddy Piper. That was a lot of fun

steveinny among my favorites from the U.S. I'd go with Miss Elizabeth (she was so out of place for the times), Jim Cornette (fabulous insults and promos), and Paul Heyman (most over the top representation of a human being to grace the ring). In terms of single schtick: Ron Wright's wheelchair bound persona begging viewers for cash to pay for an operation because his medicaid wouldn't cover it was solid gold. He kept it up for over a year!

During the Rock Wrestling Connection, Lou Albano had to have brain surgery, so they showed him being operated on in some makeshift operating room that was cheaper than any Ed Wood Jr. set around

from waaaay back when they actually went to lengths to make it legit. Talkin' 50s.
"Faces" (good guys). VerneGagne, many time champ LouThesz ('tho if thing seemed too boring) good 'ol fashioned loud slap. Finest technician I ever seen. Some great prelim rasslers, Johnny Barend, Tony Silipini (Rochester NY-guys), Dick Beyer (great career as Destroyer). A few good "heels" too. Baron Sicluna, Seelie Samara, Frank Fojo, Baron Gattoni (considered by his peers as the strongest in the bizness), Ilio DiPaolo, always a good guy, married promoter Pedro Martinez's daughter)....others I've forgot about. Biggest "freak" ever to appear in Rochester. Max Palmer "Paul Bunyon" (search him up). Yep some memories
Ed Duncan, Batavia, NY

Saw him Ref a few matches and he did a few old timer bouts even later. My best friend, at the time, was a third cousin of his. Oh, and Verne Gagne, who had his own AWA. I admired him from the mags, too, along with the Flying Frenchman

Great thread! I don't watch the new stuff much, but loved it as a kid.
Top Five Curt Hennig (Mr Perfect) Rowdy Piper Rick Flair Bam Bam Bigelow Arn Anderson
I was always a fan of the heels!
I'd definitely post a couple matches if I were at my computer. First to come to mind are between Perfect and Bret Hart. Those two did some excellent work during their feud when Bret was still a baby face.
