Any Eagle Scouts among us? One here. I was 2 merit badges and a community service project away when I was kicked out for eating a Brownie. Actually it was a Senior Girl Scout. 50 years later I still regret that I didn't get to put that pin on my mother in front of her friends. About half of my friends made it. My best friend has about 2 dozen palms. Several friends have multiple sons who have achieved Eagle. We are now attending ceremonies for the friends grandsons.

I made it as far as Webelos so a tip of the ole doiby to you Eagle Scouts. It took me a few years but I learned plenty about life serving on the DMZ in Korea during the Cold War.

...perhaps most of our troop members were smoking out behind the barn...

Not a scout myself but working with the paper I did get the opportunity to meet a gentleman who is 93 who still actively heads the local scouts.

A project and a merit badge away when I stopped going at 17. I spent many great years adventuring with my troop and my brother actually made eagle. I got the smell of gasoline and perfume then was off like a hound. I hope one of my sons gets the itch so I can spend some time camping with them the way my dad did with me. Time will tell.

1st Class was my limit for achievement. I stayed in until 16. It was all about the camping in my case. And adventure. I do respect and admire you Eagles though.

It is on my bucket list to revisit Korea if it ever quiets down on the peninsula. Thanks for your kind words Dramatwist.

Dramatwist, are you sure that you want to keep claiming that you were an Eagle scout?

I know that you and Charlie Sheen are buddies, but I didn't think you were smoking his stash. You won't get over your writers block that way.

I still have my Boy Scouts manual from long ago. It's one of my favorite books to pull off the shelf and browse - guaranteed trip down memory lane.

I didn't get thru even one year of Cub Scouts. Our Den Mother became such so they would let her son join.He was the right age but was mentally handicapped so wasn't in the right grade in school.(He was three years behind his age group) Also, that was the year my GrandFather passed away. So,I kind of lost interest in making paper cut outs and cookies.

My friend Kyle made it to Eagle Scout and his father was a scout leader. The best memory for me, personally, is that he was also a pipe smoker. @cap ... great picture!

Grandson was on my farm couple months ago useing GPS and dead reckoning for a badge toward his Eagle Scout, he has a ways to go but is determined. His Mom my daughter takes him to a lot of his functions as Father is a pilot for Fed Ex on an International route and is away a lot. They just came back from a week camp out in Georgia and his Mom went. Several Men scout leaders questioned her about being in male proximity, she replied I was a Crew Chief on. C-130 Gun Ship, does that qualify, No Replies.

I was in Webelos up till the end of 5th grade. Similar experience as Matthew in that I had a 'den mother' as well and most of what we did was just arts and crafts. The larger events involving other chapters were the only real fun we had. Another downside was wearing the uniform as a fat kid. Haha

Only a couple of years as a Cub Scout, but served many years in adult leadership positions in the SFBAC... some great people in the organization, young and old.
