You guys are tough. I'm glad i don't have to suffer such insults; I look like Ricardo Montalban. Do you have a Tattoo too? Not even an ink one. I do have a plane though.

Would a Castello Sea Rock count as blasted or rusticated? I absolutely love them. Smooth can be nice, but it depends entirely on the wood grain of the individual pipe.

red, Castello Sea Rocks are considered rusticated pipes. Their Antiquary line is sandblasted.

I like a smooth pipe the most, but I also like a good deep sandblast. I like smooths because you can see the grain of the wood.

it is about 50/50 . . . .seldom a conscious choice, in that the pipe calls first and the finish is most often, secondary.

I can picture Jim as Tattoo.... I'd still be three feet taller than you, egg breath. Actually, it’s steak and eggs breath. That’s what I had for a late breakfast/early lunch at the diner in the village this morning. I still can’t get the image of a pipe smoking Tattoo with Jim’s face running towards the float plane dock while yelling “The Blend! The Blend!".

red, Castello Sea Rocks are considered rusticated pipes. Their Antiquary line is sandblasted. Why they couldn't find a new name I don't know but Castello did have a popular line of Old Antiquari pipes the had a Sea Rock carving and a dark stained "Fumed" top. They were "only" sold on the US (hallco) market. I collect and my passion is a unique, wide ranging, what I call sculpted finish that Castello called Epoca that inspired other brands including Radice, Asorti, Caminetto and Ser Jacopo. Here's some very basic information. docs.google.com/file/d/0B6S7CCGs1FPCS0tqN3hkOWJRYUE/edit
