I searched the site for any threads related to Freemasonry but didn't see anything. Are there any brothers here? Just curious and sorry if this was brought up on another thread.

I have one of my Granfather's pipes who was a Mason. Unfortunately cracked. I have his ring and a couple other mementos. My Sainted Stepdad was one, too. Good luck with your search

We enjoyed our St Louis Gateway Pipe Show a couple of weeks ago that has been hosted for the last few years at a old Masonic Temple. I was elected The Grand Poobah for the day.

Yeah, Free Masonry is still "illegal" in Mexico although not as out of sight as it was 15 years ago.

I find Freemasonry fascinating, and have been to quite a couple of temples, including the main one in London. The one here is Santa Fe is really impressive, and quite a landmark: www.santafescottishrite.org/

Ya, I saw that on Instagram. Was it still being used as a masonic hall and rented out or is it no longer a masonic building?

Though I guess there are some chapters somewhere off the hooks, the Masons I know and have known are such totally decent people it puts many people in lofty places away.
The rap on them is that they are satanic (what many believe), yet their charter is belief in God, but to be beyond that to get things done, a la the founding forefathers. They did not want to be arguing among the different sects of faith. My Stepdad was extremely religious and extremely Mason.

Yes there is always a bible present during meetings here in the U.S. but the "rule" is that you must believe in a higher power so in other countries they might be using the quran . This is one of the reasons the catholic church has been against Catholics joining the fraternity since it isn't Jesus that is "pushed". Every mason I know is a Christian and most of them attend church weekly. No devil worship at all. Members are not supposed to talk politics or religion. Too many arguments happen especially with politics as we well know. However, the York Rite, an arm of Freemasonry like the Shriners or Scottish Rite, is very much a Christian part of Freemasonry. Freemasonry is about making good men better. It is all about ethics, morals and charity. Now every organization has had questionable issues throughout the years but I have never myself experienced anything other than positive. As far as a secret society, the only secret is that the meetings are closed to non-members to be honest. The "secrets" also include lessons on morality that's it. To say that every mason is moral is a stretch but most of us are. Back in the its heyday when many "high society" people were members they may have had some power but there is nothing like that now anyway.

I was in De Molay, but I came to it too late in my youth to do a lot more with it. I moved out of town and never pursued Masonry. In De Molay, the men we called Dad Eams, Dad Fisher, were just the best of the best men I could have or imagine helping young men become good/great men.

I have been watching our Scottish Rite Valley and the soap opera surrounding it. Pretty embarrassing and I don't think I will be getting back involved with the Scottish Rite any time soon. I love my blue lodge but it is slowly dying as all of masonry. I am trying to do what I can to build our lodge anyway. That is about all you can do. Sorry to hear about your situation with your own lodge.

Quite a few of our US presidents were Masons and Masonry figured large as well. Look at the $1 bill and you'll see many Masonic symbols. I don't belong but the history is fascinating. Around our area most of the classic temples have been converted into apartments or repurposed otherwise.

Around our area most of the classic temples have been converted into apartments or repurposed otherwise. Here the older temples were converted into churches and the newer ones 'hide out' as Rotary or Lion's Intl. halls.

I have my Step-Father's ring but never joined. One of the great and funniest quotes ever with a deeper meaning. Something to do with divisiveness, exclusivity and elitism.

I have my Step-Father's ring but never joined. I have my grandfather's ring and tie clasp. Will probably have my step-dad's someday, but would rather have mom around to keep holding it for me.

I was active when I lived in Missouri, but not so much here in NJ, just due to time conflicts. I visit the lodge when I can, and I try to catch some lectures, which are really cool due to the dense history of this area.
But, yeah....blue lodge all the way. I like visiting other lodges whenever we travel, especially grand lodges.

I've seen some old pipes on eBay from time to time. They look decorative at first, but they're obviously used. Good luck.
