This is a little embarrassing but I feel you honest gents won't judge me too harshly. I need to admit I know almost nothing about Burleys. The only blends I've had with burley are my Mac Barens (plum cake and vanila flake)and those being heavy aros, I'm not sure if they count. What can you guys tell me about this revered burley I keep hearing about and what blends should I try to get a good burley experience.

I'm not quite sure Burley is revered, but many of us find a ton of comfort in it. I absolutely hate the term "it is what it is", but that really sort of fits Burley. It's there. Not a blank white sheet of paper. Sort of a blank beige sheet. If you want a good tobacco blast Five Brothers is pure Burley and pure blast. Something milder, try Sir Walter Raleigh. All Burley, but milder. Often Burleys have a nutty sort of taste.
I think the flavors in the MacB come from other tobaccos and the Burley in it is to add consistency with a certain nuttiness.
Disclaimer: This is what I have observed. As seen many times in TBP history, I can be very wrong

PS - If you get some straight Burley, just take a deep whiff of the tin/pouch note. You'll get a nutty/cereal scent from it that is quite appealing. Almost reminds me of being in a wheat field

I had a sample of peterson's Nutty Cut once. Since you mentioned about the nutty flavour, I just looked it up and burley is there. I'm assuming that's what I've experienced.
I quite liked it too, from what I remember.

Cornell & Diehl makes some great Burley blends. As a baseline I'd try Three Friars, Haunted Bookshop then Old Joe Krantz (from mildest to strongest). Burley Flake #1 is delicious but on the strong side depending on your nic tolerance, sip & enjoy. Happy tasting.

Peretti Blend 333...soooo delicious.

There are many, many great Burley blends out there. As stated, C&D is top notch and probably one of the best for traditional, old school Burley blends. Peretti is another great blender and an oft forgotten, Uhles.

I am a fan of Burley and Kentucky tobacco but only when mixed with a good Virginia. I don't care for straight Burley. My favorite Vaburs are as follows: Mac Baren Old Dark Fired Esoterica Stonehaven ( a bitch to find) Solani Silver Flake Peterson Irish Flake, University Flake, Perfect Plug Orlik Dark Strong Kentucky GL Pease Navigator

placing a generous amount of Burley under a large rock in your yard or garden is a good measure to keep Stormy and his hitman Bubba at bay.
