After a requisite period of tobacco sampling, as a pipe-smoking sprout, I decided that "Skalorna" (sp?) was my choice for a *daily* blend. It was rich, lightly aromatic and had that certain *something* to my taste. I purchased and cellared all I could, given my meager budget at the time.
"Skalorna" ceased to exist after a year or two.
Years later, having mastered the mechanics of the pipe and after a discussion with a friend on ASP (Dick Bies), who sent me a spanking-new tin of "Penzance", a pivotal moment presented itself... yes, "Penzance" surpassed "Skalorna", and became my *daily* blend. So complex, so different... a singular experience. I purchased and cellared as much as I was able.
After a few years, "Penzance" became scarce.
Another ASP-er, whose name I can't recall, suggested "Frog Morton." There was only one Frog at that time.
I tried it. I liked it. It became my *daily* smoke. Cellared quite a bit, now that I had more financial muscle.
Now, the "Frogs" are going away.
What is the moral of this fable?
