The Briarpatch is an oasis in the turmoil of the online experience. The goodwill, kindness and genuine camaraderie are sterling and second to none. I am thankful every single day to be a small part of this community of fine human beings.
Smoke in peace.

Yep, you're a good one. It's been quite around here for the last 10 days or so. I wonder what's missing?

Well said sir.
It's easy to take for granted, until reminded by a scan through some of the posts on some other pipe sites.
Manners are free.

A community is made up of givers and takers, fortunately there are more of the former here than the latter.

I had been lurking around a couple of pipe smoking sites for several months before I joined this one. There was a reason for that. I feel welcome here....

I have felt the urge to post something similar, but resisted it because there was a thread very similar to this started not too long ago....
But in my short time here I have felt welcome and I feel like part of the community in some small way. One of the highlights of my day is popping on here to see what i've missed.
May the fellowship continue. Thanks to all who have made this possible.

Thanks to all who have made this possible. ...it seems to me much like a "fellowship", LL... for some reason, it has attracted and gathered all that is good in pipe-smokers. I believe a large degree of credit goes to the EIC and the Moderators, for allowing a free and full discourse.

I started in forums years ago but got distracted by youtube and Instagram. Although those are great platforms for pipe smokers I realized something coming back to forums, especially this one. We are not just posting pictures here and we are not just talking to the camera showing our latest box opening or just rambling. We actually talk to each other, relate to each other and give and take advice. It is much more fulfilling for me to actually be communicating with people and getting to know people and it is not just pipes, it is every subject under the sun including health and sickness. It has really been refreshing joining y'all here at the Briarpatch. Thanks for having me. I really hope to meet up with some of you at the upcoming Chicago Pipe Show.

Well, even though I came here after being banned elsewhere I've grown to like this place more. We have an occasional bust-up, but things get worked out. And not every damn thread turns into a point-scoring and member-measuring contest like a certain place I check out once in a while.

to pick up where @chico left off, it is a relief to log in and not have the mindset that your going to do battle for the simple pleasure of smoking a pipe.

I joined this forum and some other pipe somoker's forums because I enjoy reading through all the different opinions about piping, and I want to learn about different tobacco mixtures, smoking experiences, techniques, etc. So far, so good. I never will understand why some guys are hostile, or why they can be uncivil towards those who share their interests. I don't agree with everything I read, but my opinion is not more important than any other's opinions. I'll always chose to just ignore the trouble-makers rather than engaging in hostilities on an open forum.
I think most of us are here to have fun, to learn, to relax, and to discuss things that hold our common interests. No one needs the extra stress. Life is difficult enough, and way too short.
Thanks for the thread.

I joined this forum just looking for an active group to converse pipes with and I've found way more than that here. Genuine caring and friendship. Not to mention the depository of knowledge this forum has on the pipe. I've tried to join some facebook groups but they are always gossipy and filled with the same old thing. Right now it's screenshots of McClelland blends on eBay. I'm glad I found this place as OP stared it is an oasis in a desert.

That said, it could happen here too and I'm not sure I'd even notice...Glad it's not happening here.

Great thread Twist.
I joined up here after a recommendation from JimInks.
Justin (Sparks) has done a fine job of keeping this a civil club and I appreciate the fact that the prima donna's, prevalent on other sites, are kept in check here.
At the end of the day we are all (or should be) grown men and women. Though we most certainly don't all share the same political and religious ideologies, we should nonetheless conduct ourselves in a civil and cordial manner while here.
Just as with the country club, that I've been a member of for 14 years now, I choose to come here and socialize with my friends. As with the club, if there is a conversation taking place that I have no interest with or disagree with, I simply pick up my cigar and scotch and find another table. The one exception being if someone were bullying or harassing someone else.
I have had to good fortune of meeting some of the members here in person and have also had the opportunity to exchange phone numbers and emails with others. We correspond quite frequently, and for this I am grateful.
So, for those of you that haven't yet, and are so inclined, reach out to Justin when you get a chance and let him know that you appreciate the time and money he's spent to create our virtual smoking lounge.
