Last night I went on my first break at work and broke out my $1.99 imported cob and opened my pouch of half and half that I paid only a buck for and started smoking..one of the nurses came outside and saw this and started to giggle calling me grandpa....well I am old enough to be her dad so I didnt take that much offense to the grandpa comment and continued to puff away in relaxation mode..when she came over and asked if she could try a puff or two and since she smokes the A. Fuente mini cigars in a tin I pulled out my other El cheapo cob, packed it for her and passed it over to smoke..after smoking for 10 min she said it was ok to smoke in a hurry but tasted a wee bit too much like fake cherry..I looked at her and she said her grandpa smoked a pipe for years and smoked ,a cherry blend that tasted more like real cherry and not this stuff but she could understand why I would smoke the cheap pouch stuff when at work when at any minute we could have a code and have to drop everything and start running. That right there showed to me that not every pipe has to a hand carved beauty filled with super premium tobacco to be enjoyed.

That sounds like a positive experience, Mike; though I'm surprised that the Chinese cob actually made it through a whole smoke.

It may not make it through next two or three so I may buy a few El Cheapo cherrywoods for work..the same ciccy shop that sells chineese cobs sells the cherrywood pipes for 4.99..so I pick up a couple

My Chinese cobs from P&C smoked like crap...this caused me to ditch them.
But if you enjoy the smoke, carry on, that is what matters.

So true! The guy I bought my last pipe from was smoking Super Value Vanilla in an old Grabow with electric tape holding the stem in place. He said that prior to the price increases, he smoked Captain Black White for about 30 years. He seemed perfectly happy and content with his smoke. However, he doesn't know it yet but there is a couple of new cobs and some 1Q headed his way.

First and only time I smoked I Chinese cob I accidentally set it on fire. With Missouri meerchaum being only a couple bucks more I wouldn't bother with the Chinese cobs.

Worn out a couple of Missouri cobs, but I puffed on 2 OTC blends ( Troost & Clan ) for years before I recently discovered piping and cigars as a hobby. But I cannot believe what good value tobacco is in the States compared to the UK, but not complaining, it is still good value in the UK, and an enjoyable hobby, as part of my life, it adds to the quality of my life and enjoyment of work and leisure.

In my experience, there is absolutely no better value than a cob, bar none! We are fortunate in this age to have so many fine tobaccos to choose from thare at relatively easy to acquire. I do wish I had cobguys talent for making blends and twisted ropes at home - they are definitely many cuts above the rest. His cob twist for example reminds me of what a REAL natural smoke must have been like hundreds of years ago... it's an amazing smoke!
