I tend to be distracted with my writing as I smoke, so I usually have to light a bowl 3 or 4 times throughout (considering tamping, etc.)
How about you?

I have managed to get through 80% of a bowl with about 3-4 lights...but often, when I'm near the bottom, I light more often.
I think I'm done and then when I tip out the ash, there's still some unburnt tobacco left in the bowl. Maybe my initial packing at the bottom of the bowl needs work.

When you are working, I think that you will enjoy the smoke more if you have to stop and relight after the pipe has cooled. That's when I get the most flavor.

3-4 lights for me on average Yeah, probably about the same. Maybe a another one or two, but most times I am not very particular about how I pack my pipe.

Some tobacco just will not smoke to ash in most pipes. In fact, I think it's rather unusual. I am fairly well practiced and I experience in in about 1 out of 3 bowls. And there are some that you just don't want to smoke that last bit. Like the last of a bottle of red wine.

Usually 3-4 for me. I am always either reading something or typing and my pipe goes out because I space out. I have never tried to smoke a bowl with only one relight. That takes concentration and continual tamping, something I don't care to do.

I have been more successful keeping my pipe lit since I have been not packing my pipe so hard. I pack lighter, light and sometimes tamp amd relight. It usually stays lit the whole bowl. The tobacco isn't as strong, bitey or hard to draw. I used to have to run a pipe cleaner into the pipe cause the draw hole was blocked.

My tally varies greatly depending on what I am doing. If I am sitting there reading, I can get by with 3 or 4 lights. But if I am distracted by a phone call, doorbell, etc., it will take more lights to complete the bowl.

Grump is spot on!
Let it dry. (drier than you might initially think)
Pack it light. (lighter than you might think)
This produces much less gurgle. Much less harshness. Much more enjoyment.

I'd say 3-4 relights per bowl is about right.

I average 2 to 3. . . . but I don't worry about it. A fussy blend, with a cut I don't like can increase that average.

Another trick in addition to packing more lightly with an even distribution is to movingly hover the flame over the bowl at a height where your draw can be seen to pull down the full length of flame onto the load surface and slightly under, so that it only gently ignites the load rather than almost burning it out before having the chance to enjoy. Jet lighters are a no no...

On average 4-6....unless it's a very wet aromatic...then maybe a couple of more. I am usually working though so I sometimes get absorbed in my work and forget that I am doing multiple things. I may not be letting it dry enough, but once I pack it, walking away for an extended period of time is hard....I want to smoke it!

With cobs I usually smoke to ash, but that may be because the chamber is hard for me to stuff to the bottom (my best guess). Mostly I can get to the dottle, but the big deal to me is lighting up to begin with. Light stuff and relight on the same match, but some tobaccos go out on me right away and I have to relight again.
There are a few pipes that I may get halfway through. Maybe it's the tobacco. Maybe both. I seldom let a pipe sit, so I am probably just not used to loading some types of tobacco.
Five Brothers burns like a brush fire, so that is the perfect burner
