I heard through the Grapevine that Welch's will no longer deal with Lane Ltd., makers of Captain Black. Impending shutdown of their marquee brand Captain Black Grape is causing some stir. Relations between the two companies have soured for some time, with Captain Black raisin the flag of surrender. For the moment supplies of Captain Black Grape are still filling orders, but to the wise investor this can only mean one thing: A run on the market. Barron's next edition, coming out this weekend will have the details, as the secondary market value of Captain Black Grape rises, there will be a rush to sell McClelland's and Germain/Esoterica tobaccos at going out of business prices to cover the demand for Captain Black Grape. When Lane Ltd. packages its last pouch, the California Raisins are coming out of retirement to sing a funeral dirge.
Reports from Welch's are that Lane was always trying to squeeze more out of them than they could physically supply and vowed that Lane would feel the Wrath of Welch's Grapes!
It is at this point that I, being the noble person I am, will pay 10 cents on the dollar for all your McC, Germain/Esoterica tobaccos. Next week check my eBay prices for CBG

I'm holding out for Captain Black Root Beer. Over in Magazonia I posted about using Root Beer to clean my pipes. I thought it worked quite well. As far as CBRB, I'll buy some

I've still got half a pouch. I should be well-stocked for the rest of my days. pappyjoe In a way, Captain original has a bit of a root beer thing going for it.
