So I accidentally won a pipe on ebay without fully examining the photos. The band of the military mount was cracked and needs replacing.
Does anyone know how to go about replacing it in a DIY fashion? I'm happy to replace it with copper pipe but I'm wondering how to get the bend over the mortise.
Searching YouTube had proved unproductive, but maybe my search string is wrong as I'm not too au fait with the terminology.
Maybe I'm asking the impossible... Anyone?

If it's a Sav or a Pete, you might be able to send it to them for a replacement. Once in a while Vermont Freehand has some shank cap ferrules. Failing that, the only way I know that works is what I do, which is a drawing operation. I make a set of progressive press dies and start with a flat round piece of brass or nickel. Trying to roll the curved end into an existing cylinder is an exercise in frustration because the end curve radius is too small relative to the diameter and it buckles. My way isn't very economical I'm afraid, unless one has a strong emotional attachment to a pipe.

You can look at rebornpipes.com for restoration info. Some amazing repairs though if I were you I'd sent it out.

Norwood can replace them at a reasonable price.

I've no attachment to it, but I got the pipe for about £2 and I'm not sure it's worth even that, to be fair, so I'm not going to send it away anywhere and if I break the thing while playing with it I'm not worried in the slightest.
