I was gifted several tins from@rekamepip a while back, and I had smoked Whitehall first also a while back. I am glad I revisited them together. I have now been "Chasing the Dragon" Normally meant for drugs, but in this case the better tobacco this whole time. Over the year my tastes have changed, improved, demanded more. Push Forward:
There was the gift by @10furlongs of Germain King Charles that let me know how much different a tobacco can be from it's competition.
First Post-Charles thought on Murray's: You would expect a let-down from GKC. There was not. To me, and I am not as talented of a smoke-guru as I would like to be, there is not a lot of difference between Whitehall and Belfast. I guess I would have to smoke them in a similar pipe one after the other.
However, Coming from (me) a person who was not as much into English as Aros, these two tobaccos have changed me around. While they may not have that little extra that Germain/Esoterica smokers look for, these are both really smooth tobaccos. These are tobaccos that I could comfortably put in my shopping cart on a monthly basis. These tobaccos lack nothing in the way of a great blend, good smoke. The burn is nice. I got close to the dottle before a relight.
I am a Lat Lover who does not like it to be overpowering. In both these blends there is a tad difference in how the lat is with the other components, but I feel in both the lat is 9.9 of 10 in blending perfection. YMMV, though
If there can be a comparison to King Charles (I go boldly here) it is in the smoothness.
As you can tell, I didn't steal any info from TR. If I had this review would be a little more detailed.
I am sure if I ever get a chance to get more GKC or other blends from that blending house I would buy them. Stupid not to.
With these two Murray's blends I will be lacking nothing while I wait for pigs to fly.
Everyone knows i love Distinguished Gentleman and Spilman's. There are differences, but these are every bit as enjoyable as DG. They are every bit as smooth. DG has a richness that may put off some, but i adore. So, I might suggest this as more of a go-to than DG. Says a lot as much as I push DG.
Price is pretty nice, too.
Sloop John B was kind enough to include some others, not in front of me right now. I know they are John Cotton, and a few personal blends that were cool. Will be trying the John Cottons soon
