Man...a couple months ago I had the flu, and even though I was proactive it turned into Pneumonia in both lungs...got past that. A week and a half ago, I was wrestling some freight...2 k pound pallet and ended up with a tight calf muscle...almost resorting in a torn achilles...which is a several month long ordeal...dodged a bullet on that but it will be sore for awhile regardless...getting past that. My brother came into town a week ago, brought a nasty cold with him...I have been hacking and coughing for a week, once the phlegm turned green I went to the doctor and got some amoxicillin and bentonate pills? to ease the coughing. Woke up with pink eye this morning (yesterday I thought I had a piece of dirt in my eye)...so off to the optometrist since it had all the markers of Bacterial as opposed to viral and allergy caused that just run the course. One thing I have learned while recuperationg...generally a pipe doesn't cut it when you are dealing with respiratory issues.....If you are blowing your nose a lot and you take snuff...it is "hey bubba Hold my beer" time. SNUS does fit the bill nicely though.......Embrace tobacco diversity....I guess I have an ETD disorder. Anyway a few picks from the south rim with my brother...after the Achilles strain, and before Mister Mucous came on the scene...me with my tiny 1952 GBD Lumberman. I had hiking boots on for support, but I wasn't hiking anywhere a handicap person couldn't get.The mule in the dark coat that brought sickness to my door....

Sorry you have been feeling puny. Welcome to "maturity". it's great that you got to go with your brother. When we were there in October, I was using a cane and a hiking staff. I busted my knee just before the trip. No hiking for me, either. Not the way I had dreamed of seeing the Grand Canyon.

Yeah, it was funny to see people with 20 years on me that are obviously hiking nuts coming up from the trail and removing their crampons.

I certainly learned about the achilles tendon. You don't want to go there. I am starting my day with calf muscle stretches from here on out...on that day when I strained the calf muscle...I have done it several times over the years and shook it off, it was really easy to do when handling swinging beef, but I was a 20 year old back then. As the day wore on twice on my clutch foot it felt like an ice pick went into my achilles, but it was a Friday night and my wife had just picked up my brother that hand flown in from Denver via Houston and Germany as he is visiting family, so i wanted to get home. When I took my tactical boot off, I realized that it had acted like an ace bandage, and when I tried to dip my toes down, it was friggin excruciating...think ice pick city! Going upstairs really sucked....I read on the interwebs that when the calf gets really tight, the achilles tendon takes up the slack, and there isn't very much to work with. I remained active, wrapped the ankle and walked Frankensteinish...fortunately I had scheduled 4 days off work, so the rest and taking it easy really helped. It is still pretty sore but most importantly there is no pain. At the risk of redundancy, stretching daily before I get in the truck is in my future, and if the calf tightens up, Motrin and tread lightly. For the sake of the newer members, I was off work for 10.5 months a few years ago with major tears in the rotator cuff, labrum, and bicep in both arms.....I recovered nicely with the help of a fantastic surgeon and a very good physical therapy team. This was me at work post op waiting to do the second shoulder.
Getting older requires habit modification if I want to be like the crampon shod geezers.

Both of my rotator cuffs are torn. They want to do surgery but I am trying to wait it out until I retire. I cant lift a toothbrush over my head. Maybe they will have a super drug by then where you wake up in 6 months and all body parts are fixed and working as if you were in your 20's.

My surgeon told me that 50% of males over 40 or 50 have some degree of rotator cuff damage. Some live with it, more severe cases along with activities (swinging a golf club) require surgery.
I am glad mine happened on the job and they paid the freight... it must have been very expensive.
One thing to keep in mind, nicotine is a vascoconstrictor, so after a surgery of that nature optimum blood flow to the healing areas, tissues and tendons is important.... heavily moderated tobacco use is important.

I had the start of the flu, felt like crap, wife gave me a drop of Frankinsence (Essential Oil by DoTerra), every hour under my tongue, next day felt right as rain, now take a drop every morning once I brush my teeth, germs now don't come near me!
Love the canyon, great photos!

Those canyon photos are great. It's weird though, cos I half expect everyone to look like their Avatar.

It has been quite the run and I hope you've got it all out of your system now! We are overdue for a trip to the GC ... it's been too long.

Interesting. I didn't know that frankincense was edible. I googled it and see that it was used in ancient times to boost the immune system (item 2). It should keep mosquitoes out of your mouth too.

Amazing view. I also dig that jacket. The jacket is a Timberland that I got at a consignment store dirt cheap, still had the tags.... it keeps me warm in pretty low temperature weather... amazing stuff on the market. During the Arizona summers it is UnderArmor Heat gear compression shirts.. the spandex fit takes getting used to, but it works away sweat like nothing else, and my outer shirt is bone dry.

Thanks, I am doing better... still got the crud, so I’m not smoking. With the amoxicillin, and the eye drops I am starting to see incremental improvements, but I still have a hellacious cough at times.
The Achilles will be sore for awhile, a reminder that I need to be careful.
All minor stuff in the big scheme of things, daily thousands of people get dire prognosis’... mine are a blip.

Hope ya get better soon. I just got over my lung thing...for the most part but fried my tongue smoking two vaPer bowls in a row. Gave myself three days off from smoking and of course after one bowl the tongue burn was right back in full force. I normally do not have that problem. I keep my pace fairly slow. It is very frustrating wanting a bowl but having to hold off. I do mouthwash and a added aloe vera to the mix as well and seems to heal things up pretty fast. Anyway, after being sick and then getting better is usually about the time I sleep wrong or do something stupid and pull my back out lol. Have you ever done that while having a coughing fit? That's a joy pulling a back muscle while coughing. Honestly I am not in that bad of physical shape I promise lmao.

My surgeon told me that 50% of males over 40 or 50 have some degree of rotator cuff damage. Some live with it, I busted my knee trying to run up a ladder like I did 30 years and 60 pounds ago. Luckily it wasn't anything that a shot of cortisone couldn't fix, but I did it the day before we left for AZ, so it was 3 weeks before I got to the doctor. Rotator cuffs are fine. I had to give up golf early because of leg injuries. I dropped a motorcycle on my leg and was off work for 6 weeks in 2007. The company paid me for the the whole time. Some companies are great to work for.

I just read a recipe for a cough syrup that I haven't heard before. Onion Syrup! Simply boil onions in sugar water. It's supposed to be miraculous.

Thank God, never!
Miraculously, my back is in pretty good shape. I have strained back muscles that craned up, as far as I know I don’t have disc issues.
