That is a hell of a deal on a Pipemaster. Let us know how you like it after trying it. I have a number of them and they are my favorite lighter.

Been using the pipe master for a couple of days. Initial thoughts. This is an older pipe master with no built in tamper which I like since there is more room for gas. It has a little off switch where your thumb is which makes it very easy to turn off instead of burning your finger on the switch. When I first started using it I forgot to flip the off switch. I smelled something burning and looked over to see the lit pipe burning my mouse pad!
When I initially got the pipe, I filled it with butane for the first time but it would not light. Flushed it and filled it with a different butane and no go. It sparked with its internal quartz sparker but no gas sound. I was setting up a return a couple of days later and I tried it and it worked! Dunno why. maybe it just needed the gas in it for a while. Who knows how old it is.
On a side note here's the passive aggressive response I got from the seller. "Sorry, but item is not defective, you did not read the item description well before buying. Description clearly said that lighter ignites but wont produce flame because it will need a gas refill for it to produce some kind of flame. But you can return it for your full refund, not a problem at all. God Bless u"
Like I don't know it needs gas to "ignite".

I'm glad it's finally working for you. Also glad you managed not to set the house on fire too. That's always a bonus.

damn pipe master seal blew. Instead of spending $35 and postage to get it fixed I bought a Kibiri Kabuto for an extra $20 instead.

Mine is from 1965...sent it to Music City for refurbishment...twice as the seal just wouldn't seal...this last time was it for me...now I just look at it and it looks back. Bic, Zippo and matches for me.

Bic, Zippo and matches for me. There is an easy fix that usually works, did and still does for me. Completely purge the butane from the lighter, and I mean completely. Fill the lighter as much as possible....now purge immediately....once again fill the butane lighter to its maximum and after 30 minutes purge butane once again. After only a 10 minute wait refill your butane lighter and put aside for 5 days. This method will seal the rubber once again. I just used this method once again last year on an older Corona Old Boy that was generously gifted to me by two members of another forum. One member warned me that it might need to be sent out for repair because the lighter did not hold butane long.....well it surely does now and itβs my favorite, especially when I get the chance to visit my pipe smoking friend here in NC ππ

Walt......have patience better then 95% of the time this method I wrote does the trick. The seals just need to be properly seated. AJ will attest too that as wellππ

I am able to use my 60's era Pipemaster. Aron from Music City Marketing (repair place) told me it was back then called a CTL-2, not a pipemaster. It is matte black, looks like the present day ones except that it has a button on the side to cut off the gas.

Rarely the seals need replacing if you follow the method I explained. Enjoy your butane lighter for many years. You must remember the old Chrysler butane lighters as well. I just used this method on a very old Chrysler butane that the gas leaked out completely within 20 minutes. This method moistened and seated the seals properly and my neighbor was amazed. He was told by a local B&M the lighter would be to costly to repair.........yaaaaaaaaright. The repair guy really knows his stuff...LMAO!

I am thrilled. So happy that my old lighter still works. Actually, they replaced all the guts so it is actually a new lighter in the old case. Many thanks, lonecoyote.

My pleasure Walt, these new guys that supposedly repairs old lighters donβt know or realize that the seals in butane lighters MUST be seated properly. Like I stated prior, works 95% of the time for me, the other 5% is usually a hairline fracture in the tank which can also be repaired properly if one has the patience π PS Walt, please call me Ted, I heard many good things about you from AJ. HE REALLY MISSED YOU!!!
