I thought it might be fun to grow a few tobacco plants this year. Am I too late to plant? Is there an online resource that steps you through the process for growing and curing tobacco at home? Any recommendations on what type of seeds to get and where to buy them? Thanks!

Fair Trade Tobacco Forum ... great guys and PAGES of info. Seeds ... nwtseeds.com Mine are just now germinating and, if you want to try the same varieties, I have lots of seeds left over. Shoot me a PM!

Could you grow me a bale of Stonehaven? Will you supply the treacle? @peterc, WLT is my main source and I've ordered close to 40 lbs from them. Great selection of cigar leaf too. Also, Fair Trade Forum is sponsored by WLT.com and Don is a great guy.

There's only three in stock ... going to need a lot more for a whole bale! Lol

@walkman ... here's what I was talking about as far as too many seeds per space.
I'm going to have to do some serious thinning!

Is tobacco difficult to grow / care for?

They are fairly easy to grow but the processing (curing, kilning, etc.) requires some learning and diligence.
I live in a very arid climate which adds it's own complications ... this isn't Virginia by a long shot. LOL

We barely get a dry day in Ireland.

There's a chick on the FairTradeTobacco forum that grows a lot of tobacco and she is in Ireland. She uses a poly tunnel. You could probably join the forum and PM her for some Irish pointers on growing tobacco.

Hey JBD ... thanks for popping in on this thread!
Randy has grown tons of tobacco and provided me with much useful information. If I can't answer it, I'd say he can.
