Does anyone have experience sending a few tins overseas from the US? Do you declare what they are or just hope to get them through? I was thinking of sending a few tins of hard to find Tobacco to friends in Japan and Australia.

I know that recipients in Australia can be taxed more than the value of the tobacco. That's what happened to Aussie piper, Gig, on another forum.

There are a few international tobacco shippers that know the ropes, if you are wanting to send some stuff that is currently available, I would just arrange a shipment with them. If you are sending aged or unobtainable, maybe they are willing to offer advice... PM me if you need their contact info.

Best not to declare it as tobacco, say a gift with a low value!

Don't send bulk unless it's vacuum sealed...and even then, don't include a receipt and maybe partially rip the front sticker so that you can declare it having no commercial worth.

Best not to declare it as tobacco, say a gift with a low value! I've wondered about this? Seems like the risk is greater for those on the other end?

I've wondered about this? Seems like the risk is greater for those on the other end? That is my thought as well. What is the penalty? Typically, if they want the tobacco they pay the freight on it when customs notifies them, if it is a suspect package. If they choose not to, then it goes to the home of a customs officer. International shipments require that one clicks a box stating that they know the risks and are willing to accept them. Penalties are regulated by each country...some are ridiculous. In the latest PM podcast, a Singaporean wrote in that 1 gram of tobacco coasts $10.00 USD..that means $30.00 per bowl. Proprieters cannot sell tinned tobacco, it has to be transferred to baggies plastered with scaremongering. Total bullshit...if tobacco was that bad, just ban it...they won't do that because there is too much money involved, so you know it isn't about health concerns. I am tempted to say that at that point it is better to go the black market route, the mafia is probably more compassionate than the government, but I am quickly reminded that in Singapore, spitting on the sidewalk has severe consequences. adventurousmiriam.com/10-weird-laws-singapore-get-trouble/
