In a few weeks I will be 76 years old. I've had a shoulder an a hip replaced.I'm limited as to what I can do.I walk with a cane outside.Doc says if I fall I could pop something loose. This isn't a plea for sympathy.I live a very good life. It's about Kindness that people are showing an old man.A few weeks ago a young fella changed the batteries in all my smoke detectors for me.Today a neighbor cleaned all my ceiling lights for me.W hen I go to stores folks hold doors open for me.They get things off high shelves for me.Some times they let me go ahead of them in the check out line. When they speak to me they call me sir. There's a lot of kind people in this world..Let me be clear here.I don't like being old..Here's my take on life though..I look at it as though I'm on a journey down a country dirt road.As I look back I have a lot more miles behind me than ahead..Some day I will come to the end of that road.I don't know how many miles I have left before that happens. I hope to spend them here though with the only pipe smokers I know....Thank all of you for being kind to this old man.

Larry,
As a wise man once said, measure your life not by the days in your life but the life in your days.
If I were closer to NC, I would join you for a bowl or 6 to hear your stories. You should post some of them, as I am sure that you have lived a full life.

In a world of terrorism and evil, when the news is fixated with all that is wrong in the world, it's good to be reminded that not everyone is bad. There are many good folk in the world and I'm glad you have been on the receiving end of some of that goodness.
I wish I could share a bowl or two with you and help you do the things you find it hard to do while you help me do the things that I find hard to do.

Karma has come back to reward you for all the good things you did in early chapters of your life, now in later chapters it is your turn to receive, enjoy your 76th birthday!

What a nice post, Larry. So often we're inundated with bad news and negative perspectives but, thanks for taking the time to remind us of how good the world is, and how good the people in it are. You're an example of that, Sir. Thanks.

It is good to hear that younger people are not as self centered as one might think. I'll be walking your road before long, I'm 72. Keep enjoying your days.

Well stated, Larry and as you remind us, don't judge a book by its cover, even though it is a younger edition.

What an endearing and heart-warming post, Larry. Luckily, kind people are still the majority, but they don't make good news. People, who blow others up, kill, maim or rape, do. Sad. I'm 67 and as I have no guarantee that I'll ever be 68, I try to live every day as it was my last. All my best to you, friend.

Being in my late 40's I am starting to feel the aches and pains of age which makes me respect my elders even more. I was raised to help neighbors, hold a door open for anyone behind me and just always be respectful. I used to do it out of habit and still do but I get joy from doing those things now especially with the greatest payment of all, a thank you and a genuine smile. Not tooting my own horn because I think this should be a normal occurrence in society. I would love to sit and have a few bowls with you as well and I know you still have many more bowls to enjoy.
