Nice!
It looks like he was handed a pretty rough piece of Briar, and really excelled.
Nice job!

thanks, guys! He was a little disappointed when he learned he'd be working with a pre-drilled block, but once he was done he realized this was the way to start. He now knows what kind of equipment he needs and walked away with valuable info, as well as a pipe! I see sanding disks in our near future....

I wish I'd the space for a lathe and buffing wheel, sander and saw etc.

hubby has always worked with wood so he's accumulated several tools over the years, and then I inherited my grandparents' house which included my grandpaw's woodshop, so he just has a few small items to get.
Interesting tidbit -- hubby is a bit of a perfectionist, so while he loved how the wood turned out on his pipe, there were aspects about it he wasn't pleased with and didn't think anyone would consider it worth buying. He was asked by his instructor to put his pipe on display with the others from the workshop at the TAPS table to promote the workshop. As we were leaving we went to collect his pipe and there was a guy there talking to the instructor and when he learned hubby made it he asked if it was for sale. That took hubby by surprise, but said it was for me. But I think that helped encourage him. I'm excited for him

If I had the money, I'd buy it. I would also like to make one myself though. But just think... No more savinelli spending sprees. If you want a new pipe, all you have to do is shout, 'oi, hubby, new pipe please.' shipping is free too.
