Not so much keeping it shiny. But as for the spigot part of the stem inserted into the mortise, I'm starting to notice it can be hard, at times, to remove, once the pipe is cold. I never push excessively the stem into the mortise. So I was wondering if anyone had a trick to keep things nice so I won't have to fight and force, eventually, to remove the stem. Or, maybe I worry too much?

Is the tenon part metal or vulcanite/acrylic? First thing to try is scrubbing the mortice with a brush and high proof alcohol.

Well, then the only thing to do is wipe graphite on the spigot. If no graphite, scribble on it with a pencil and it may lubricate it a bit. If it's tapered, then you can just push it in a little.

Ok, Roger; so it's to be treated the same way than I would with a regular tenon that is kind of tight. Thanks, guys!

I am struggling to refrain from making spigot jokes.🤡 I have used graphite as well and it helped.

FWIW, i bought a huge can of graphite powder from the John Deere store for about 14 bucks that'll last about 200 years. I do use it for other things, however. Small tubes of the stuff are on Amazon, and sometimes in the auto parts stores

I bought a little 2oz bottle about 20yrs ago. Still have plenty. Mostly use it on door locks.
