The Chicagoland International Pipe Show is known the world over for being the biggest and the best pipe and tobacco show out there. I was fortunate enough to attend the 2015 show and can attest that the experience is overwhelming. The camaraderie is probably one of the first things you notice. Wall to wall pipe smokers, chatting, sharing tobacco and experiences inside the smoking tent. Familiar faces from the community and faces unknown but connected to names that have a mystical almost legendary status. Whether it is a famous pipe smoker or an average guy like myself, you can rub elbows with people representing the entire spectrum of this hobby. Then there is the show itself. Starting with the pre-show in the smoking tent on the first day, table after table of pipes, tobacco and accessories. The pre-show is impressive on it's own, but is dwarfed by the full show floor. As far as the eye can see there are items to satisfy your PAD and TAD. I walked the floor several times and had to take several breaks out to the smoking tent just to rest my eyes and my excitement. It truly is a spectacular site. The opportunities are endless at the show. There is something for everyone, whether it be the pipe making seminar or special events setup for the ladies that are good enough to support the crazy habits of their other half. This video put together by Dan Nemets interviews many attendees and highlights some of these great events. I'll let the video speak for itself. Enjoy!

Stan, campsites in Chicago are called bridges. Now a bridge across the Atlantic may be a bridge too far, but you cannot have it all, but it was just a call to nature of the wilderness on old trails...an old boy scout smelling the tracks.

The 2016 Chicago Pipe ShowI did attend the 2016 Chicagoland Pipe Show! The crowd seemed even larger than the 2015 show, the weather was rainy and cool, and still I had a great time. There were thousands of pipes and lots of tobacco to sample and buy. I came home with 5 pipes, 3 tins of tobacco, and a shopping bag full of samples. It may have been the cool damp weather, I longed for latakia, and English style blends. Pipes and tobaccos from all over the word were on display and for sale. Also all kinds of accessories were too.
One of my objectives was to meet the folks from Pipes & Cigars, and Standard Tobacco of Pennsylvania, which I did. My main interest was Standard Tobacco of Pennsylvania's blends.
Pipes & Cigars and Standard Tobacco of Pennsylvania shared tables (so I got to sample some of P&C's tobaccos too).
Right to left, Russ O. ,Dan Z. Johnson and Simon Thurlow.
I also met many other pipe makers and tobacco blenders. If you have a favorite, he or she may have been there.
Despite the cold and wet weather ( I got soaked Saturday evening returning to my car) I had a really great time.

Looks like a great show...it is certainly the grandaddy of them all. Sucks you cannot smoke on the floor though.
Pretty sure I will make the Vegas show this year.
