I sent two full sized pipes in to be cleaned with my tiny pipes, and he found a crack in the shank, and it went all the way through.
So he did some work on it
and this is the finished product. It looks great!

I need to get some wax for mine. I have some somewhere, but that's the story of my life and why I have everything in triplicate. Good Morrow, Legend Lover . Hope your ship sails smoothly and the Smoke is with you

Let us know how it holds up. Often, the only solution is a band around the shank. Nice job on that.

They can be very hard to notice, especially on sandblasted pipes. I once bought a sandblasted Stanwell Churchwarden from the fifties and I didn't notice the very small, hairlined crack in the shank until the seller was safely back home. I smoke it very carefully as I think that the crack is probably too small to glue and a repair ring will ruin it's look. I do have pipes with repair rings and they look just fine, but this particular pipe...

Margaret...I'm a bit confused by the repair. In the 2nd image, the crack appears to be natural 'briar' color...but the repair appears to be nearly black. Is it just the images? Did he share what he used to patch it?

I thought the same thing Joe. As you stated, it could be the photo.

I hope it works for you. I have always banded mine. A band might look strange with the wood insert so I like this look better. Praying it holds.

Much prettier than a band would be.
