Nice find!
If you can look up the stamps on that silver, you can find the date of manufacture.
All of them pipes are in my wheelhouse.

I’ll do that when we get home tomorrow. The tag on the pipe said circa 1890 but I think it was later than that.

Nice find, I've been looking here in AZ at antique places, lots of lighters and ash trays, no pipes!

Very nice. I spent an hour in an antique shop a couple of weeks ago and found nothing.

Congratulations with your find. Three beauties, they are. Especially no. three. Salmon & Gluckstein Ltd was the largest retail tobacconist in England in the late 1800s to early 1900s, so there's no reason why your pipe shouldn't be from around 1890. The silver hallmark doesn't always give you the exact year of manufacture of the pipe, but only the exact year of the silver band. The pipe manufacturer may have had a large amount of bands stamped at one time and then used them for the appropriate pipes along the way.

Visiting Nebraska this weekend. Going to hit a few antique shops on the way home. On the lookout for pipes. Hope I can find one as good as any of those three, Pappyjoe.

For those that have never shopped in antique stores..
When visiting an antique mall that has several vendors, ask one of the floorwalkers if they have seen any pipes or tobbaciana related stuff...generally speaking they are antique hounds and see what comes and goes....this can save you from wandering around for a long time, and sometimes pipes are easy to overlook with some vendors spaces...they easily get buried in the showcases.
If they have more than one floorwalker, I would ask each.
If you are fortunate enough to find more than one pipe as you look, write down the space or cabinet number so that you don't have to run back and forth chasing down the floorwalker. In antique malls, generally there is no haggling allowed as the seller is usually not on site, some allow haggling over a certain dollar amount, and the store calls the vendor...policies vary store to store.
Be prepared to see a lot of frankenpipes....Grabows and Yellowboles, etc.. that looked like they went to hell and back, but there are diamonds in the rough to be found if you are persistent.

I would just add to my last post if the antique mall is near your home, I would let the floorwalkers know that I will be back regularly to see what comes in...that may prime to be on the lookout for pipe stuff for you.
I carry a five dollar bill and tip the guy that is on the lookout for me, they aren't accustomed to getting tips, so it helps.

Good advice Charlie. I always ask where the pipes, knives and radios are. Then I shoot pics of the items I am interested in with a vendor number associated, so I don't forget. Have found a few good pipes in antique malls. Tomorrow I will be hitting some venues along I-80 in Nebraska. Lee's Marbles in York and Bargain John's in Lexington are must visits for me. I bet I buy a pipe.

These were closer to the higher end of the antique shop food chain - real antiques and furniture as opposed to crap someone's parents horded for 30 years and other discarded crap. I was surprised to find pipes in them at all.

I was surprised to find pipes in them at all. I once saw a sign in a Copenhagen thrift shop window: "Old junk bought Antiques sold". That about sums it up.

It's a BLAST to hunt junktique shops and malls for these gems. Even if all I find is a frankenpipe or burned out Kaywoodie...it's still enjoyable and worth looking at.
A few months back...after many visits and mostly striking out...the junktique near me finally had a bunch of pipes which were more than interesting. Some seller brought in a small collection, and the shop owner wanted me to take it all. Instead...I talked him out of just the 4 Danish freehands and a billiard with an interesting white dot on the stem. ;-)
For $50, that's a success. Congrats on those.

I'm going to start using the term "junktique." These were actual antique shops which were very well organized and had age and other information on items as opposed to the antique/collectible shops that are nothing more than third-hand junk retailers. Both stores specialized in antique silver and furniture so I was surprised to find pipes.
