I would love to have my tobacco inventoried, but since I didn’t do so at the beginning, it would be a PITA. now. And remembering every time I smoked a tin or jar to remove it.
It would be nice to know how much I have... I don’t have a clue.

BTW, if anyone doesn't want to be bothered doing an inventory, you can always send it over to me, so I can add to mine!

BTW, if anyone doesn't want to be bothered doing an inventory, you can always send it over to me, so I can add to mine! Like hell. Just because we don't do inventory doesn' mean we don't want it. I have an inventory -- I look at it, and it's either enough, or not enough.

I am new to this part of it. I suppose the point of cellaring is just to let it age in place, like wine? Or preparing for the coming smoking apocalypse. Or just making a collection out of an accumulation.
I kind of get it. Its like coffee - you want two things, the coffee itself, and the reliability of coffee in the future. Cure for tobacco insecurity.
My cellaring technique is just to buy more than I need.

My cellaring technique is just to buy more than I need. Yeah, that's the gist of it.

...I don't keep a log...but have a pretty specific idea of what I have and the amount...one of my older sons has indicated he'd like to do it for me, so perhaps I will let him...

It is certainly a good idea to let someone in the family know what you have if you have an extensive cellar in the case of an untimely demise, and how they should go about liquidating the contents of the tobacco and pipes if there is not a pipe smoker to pass it on to.
I have known of people that have had impressive firearms and ham radio collections that weren’t entirely honest with the wife on how much they have spent on it all and after they took a dirt nap, the spouse ignorantly sold it all off to predatory vultures for a fraction of the worth.
I wonder how many cellars get turned into garden mulch...
