What do you use to keep track of your cellared tobacco? Z My cellar is so far ahead of me it would take a century to catch up, much less keep track.

I started a list in good ol' MS Word when I first started smoking a pipe, but it's way out of date now. I even had it divided into sections of blend types, and gave scores. The best laid plans....

I use an app called ‘PIpe Tool’. It’s an old iPhone app that connects to tobaccoreviews.com

A forum I joined when I came back to pipe smoking had a guy that started an online tracking system. tobaccocellar.com. I used it for a long while but, after a few hiccups with not being able to connect, I switch to excel.

I have a spreadsheet in Google docs. Only about 4 months out of date. Did an inventory on a legal pad a couple of weeks ago with the intention of updating it, and that's as far as it went.

What do you use to keep track of your cellared tobacco? Z Nuthin. I doubt that I'll be around long enough to smoke half of what I've piled up, so why worry about running out? Besides, why spoil the mystery? This morning I was fishing out 3 tins of F&T CVP to send in trade and found two 8oz tins, one of GL Pease Telegraph Hill and one of GL Pease Montgomery, both from 2005, that I didn't know I had. It was like finding buried treasure. Keeping track of it would spoil the fun.

Major disappointment. I use www.tobaccocellar.com and have kept it up to date. It's an online database and you can download a backup .txt file of your cellar that opens in Excel. Check it out.

Once a year or so I do a physical inventory and write it down. Sometimes I update it for additions and usage, but typically not. In other words, I have a general idea what I have.

I have no desire to doing so. I have plenty of blends and have a general idea of which ones I have a bunch of. I also like surprises, so discovering a forgotten tin is a genuine pleasure to me.

So I'm new to this. How does one create a proper cellar? Well....I suggest getting two tins of tobacco you would like to try, smoke one, put the other away somewhere (thats your cellar). Repeat and repeat again often and you're well on your way to financial ruin and creating a "proper" cellar . Others may have better advice

Worse if you start a pipe collection.

I just walk down into the basement and look at it. I wish I had a basement I always believed real houses have basements. The rest are just shacks or cabins. I live in a shack, LOL! Not much tobacco "cellared" here, so I have a small wall mounted cabinet with a few mason jars, labeled with dates of course.

I keep an Excel file that has my pipes and tobaccos inventoried. Fortunately I started out early doing this and have a handle on my cellar. Finding a specific tobacco is a problem though.

As I buy and trade pipe tobacco and cigars, I keep an updated list via google work sheets that I can access via my IPhone, I normally log them straight away otherwise I wil clean forget and end up selling/trading something I no longer have (been there once or twice! LOL)

I started with a little book. That lasted a few days. I have The Pipe Tool, but I haven't put anything in it. I have 3 large boxes under the bed, and a 2 cabinets full of jars, tins, and pouches. This is how I accidentally ended up with 2+ pounds of FMC. It is an exciting adventure every time I look through the stash and discover things that I forgot about.

I haven't bothered to keep track. Doesn't really seem to be worth the time (besides I hate accounting). Compared to most collectible hobbies, pipe tobacco is one of the cheapest. I've spent hundreds on a single box of cigars that would last a couple of weeks. With the same amount, I can buy months worth of very good pipe tobacco.

I started along the same lines, only it was in Wordstar. I kept it going for maybe 3 years, and I think I still have a paper copy somewhere - lots of stuff from Greens of Leeds, Smokers Haven, and With Pipe and Book. I think I got frustrated trying to export it to the newfangled MS Word and said the hell with it. No rhyme or reason since then.

I started smoking my pipes again so I can stretch my tobacco budget. With spring finally here I have a lot of other thing I want to do. The wife mostly smokes cigars. I am glad I dug my pipes out. I fing the flavors more than make up for the extra ritual involved. It also helps that this time around I am not just smoking drug store blends. I am trying a lot of stuff suggested here. Z

When I first started, I tried using tobaccocellar.com. Frankly I'm not that organized of a person, so it wasn't long before I decided memory was good enough for me.

I don't. It's not big enough to require me to, but when (not if) it does, I'll browse for the tobacco I want and that'll do me. If I notice I'm finishing one as I pack my bowl, I'll try another and order to replace if it's still in production.
