I browsed some recent threads on pipe smokers forum after their admin passed away. It appears that he was the only admin and the site will most likely close down as a result, which is a shame.
Is there anything we can learn here? Do we have a contingency plan in place to keep the legacy going here at the briar patch if the unthinkable happens?

Lucky for us that Justin is a young man in robust health. I'm a codger and Mike (crapgame) is working toward becoming one. We have discussed adding an additional moderator since the forum has grown so much over the past year. We have been having other discussions about how to make this place better so stay tuned.
I will move this to General Discussion.

Not really. Pipe boards come and go but when Tom Dunn announced the end of TUCOP and passed with an issue of The Ephemeris half finished sitting on his desk, now that was devastating to the hobby. Woodie's passing is sad but we have already moved on to pipesmokersden.com/index.php?action=unread  |

Don't want to speak ill of the recently departed, but..... Woody was definitely harsh, hence the inordinate number of folks that were unceremoniously banned from the site, me being one of them. Turns out he took offense to my avatar. The same one I use here. Sparks (Justin) on the other hand, here @ TBP, has been a cordial and delightful person to interact with. Although I do peruse a few other sites, mostly to find deals on tobacco ;-), this is the place I choose to hang out. So, Kudos to Justin, Mike & John for making this a great place to enjoy our hobby and each others company. Dino |

In other words I'll speak the truth as I know it to be.Things got a
bit heavy handed at PSF and like it or not we found a home here.
Thank You Justin and Jim for the open door,Hope you don't regret it.
On the other hand,we need to be careful not to become that which we
left.We should bury the hatchet so to speak.If our members swell, we
need to be welcoming and not get into disputes about things that
happened at PSF or any other forum.

I think it's simply a matter of sharing admin info among the mods. As for it being Justin's playground in which we are invited to play for free... I appreciate that and would like the legacy to continue, and I would be happy to pay for it. I also agree that, whatever happened in psf, we should not publicise it too much. I wouldn't want the loyal members of psf coming here and see waves of criticism. I'm not sure that's a terribly great welcome. |

Hoping not to go off topic, I found this group through an internet search and liked what I saw. There are no pipe smokers for me to interact with except through this group. I may not post and reply as much as I'd like to due to work & such but whenever I can everyone is very welcoming and non judgmental. From high end collectors to cob only pipers everyone is treated the same and no one is looked down on for smoking Dr. Grabows or Cobs or OTC pouch tobacco's. Let's keep the good vibes going and everything will take care of itself. Just my 2 cents.
