The now closed Tewksbury & Company's best selling blend's - Hobbit's Weed - recipe has been much discussed online. People have guessed at and tested the components and the ratios. One recipe I found called for 20% of a peach blend, along the vanilla/sweet and cherry blends. I've stumbled upon posts in this forum's What Are You Smoking threads with both mentions of Hobbit's Weed clones and an interesting sounding variant named Hobbit's Moon by @irminsul. Anyone care to share Hobbit's Weed recipes?

I've heard lots about this too. It is something that I would consider trying myself if I had a clue of a recipe and could get hold of the tobaccos.

...hope I don't ruin anyone's idea of what Hobbits smoked, but I always thought of their pipe-weed as more English than Aromatic...

Tangential post, but the The Country Squire has a few Hobbit/LOTR inspired blends - of course, that's all subjective and nothing says they are like the "Hobbit Weed" described here. Still, they are tasty, so if you are on a real wizardering bent, you may wish to give them a try.

Stopped at my local tobacconist to have a look around. After prodding a bit, the shop clerk gave me the "key" to Lane Limited bulk names, e.g. House Blend = 1-Q and so on. I was able to put together a Hobbit's Weed concoction from the 1oz bags available. First impressions from the newly blended jar of homemade Hobbit's Weed, this is one syrupy sweet smelling blend. I am hoping time melds the flavors and reduces the sugar punch.

It makes the most sense that it would be more akin to a more basic VA or Burley. When you consider geography and that not much variation would exist in their baccy. Certainly some, but thinking of them as having orientals, Turkish, etc... Not to mention toppings, just seems like it would take a larger world to produce. My guess is mixtures containing ranging grades of tobacco- maybe some processes like perique or Cavendish could be accounted for.

Hahaha @chico
Captain Grape was Gimmli's favourite. What else would one follow a nice supper of salted pork with?

Wonder if they declared it to Customs? New Zealand Import Duty on 20 Lbs. of tobacco would be horrendous, even for a movie company.

trailboss Cool! Had no idea about the Peter Stokkebye Nougat. I love everything I've had from them so far, so I definitely need some of this.

trailboss, is that the same as Kentucky Nougat? If so, 25g of that came in the post yesterday (called Kentucky Maroon now - at least, in the UK).

I heard hobbits only smoked red Virginias. Probably why it is so scarce.

Hobbit's Weed Update: After a month "mellowing" in the jar, my homemade concoction remains syrupy sweet and cake-like. I suspect the flavors will not change much over the next few years. This is definitely a cob blend.

My latest variation is:
50% McClelland VBC
25% Captain Black Cherry
25% Sutliff 1-M
jarred a few weeks, I'll give it a couple of months to meld.

Way on the opposite end of the aromatic spectrum (to my taste, at least) from my home blended Hobbit's Weed is a pipe tobacco I recently picked up - MacBaren Haldberg Red. I purchased a box of the Red during a P&C sale and have found it to be a fine, lightly topped pipe tobacco. Bonus, it comes in an ornate, jewelry store like box.
