I order from Ebay most companies sell direct with free shipping on there now. I view Amazon as just another Ebay and when the box stores are gone people will wish they were still there. Depending on where you live porch pirates are stealing your stuff and when the malls are gone porches will be open season. There are some things you can buy online and other things not so much.

I love Amazon Prime. They offer great old/classic movies, many you can't find anywhere else, for free. Their shipping is lightning fast AND reliable (you maybe get one but not both through most online shops). The customer service is unbelievable in the event there is a problem. And, no porch-pirate issues for me through Amazon because Amazon has delivery hub lockers at the entrance to my neighborhood. I drive past them daily. So no inconvenience or worry for me. The packages can sit in there for up to a week and Amazon is responsible for the items until I pick-up.

Sorry to learn that you are all paying more.
I would not sign up for Amazon Prime under any known conditions. I hate the company. They are usually over priced, their service is terrible. Four to five days to process orders and another five to deliver. Boxes arrive broken or smashed. Terrible packing. I order from them if there is no alternative. Joining Prime would not speed up delivery here so it is pointless.
I often buy stuff on ebay. Few complaints.

It must depend on where you live, John.
I have received many products in the same day, and plenty more in next day delivery. I have never had an issue with returns, depending on the product they have told me to keep it, and refunded me promptly. I have never received a damaged package yet.
I bought a wall mount for my tv for $25.00 delivered same day, every bit the quality of all the others I saw for triple the price online or at a local store.
I am not a big fan of Beazos as a person, but he has built a pretty competative way to serve the consumer.
Ebay by comparison has shafted us plenty of times when it was clear that the buyer from my wife’s store was a liar... one had zero transactions on Ebay, our pictures on the post showed no damage, her reason for a return showed a cut on a Coach purse... they sided with her, presumably to keep a new buyer. Don’t even get me started on Paypal.

Honestly, I order so much from Amazon, I still come out ahead even with the additional $20.00. I am likely one of those people who costs Amazon money on Prime. I am watching a documentary about Hammer Films right now, and I just ordered some more birdseed for the feeders outside. It might reach a point where it is too much for me, but I will pay the additional $20.00 for the convenience. Ditto! I buy a lot of books and my interests are such that I can't find them at the library or local bookstores. I also use Prime Video, Prime Music, etc., often. So it's still worth it to me, even though a price jump of $20.00 does tick me off and I'm not a fan of Jeff Bezos.

This is the condition of an Amazon order I received about two years ago. This ended my relationship with the company except for those items which cannot be found elsewhere.
A complaint was filed with the USPS because it appeared to me the package had been tampered with. They responded that the packaging did not follow USPS guidelines and failed when handled. They also commented that they have many and frequent problems with Amazon's poor packaging. They are tired of being blamed for the incompetence of Amazon packagers.

We average about 2 Amazon packages per day. When I need some things aren't for sale locally,or when it's more trouble than it's worth to fight traffic to go across town. Most stuff we get the next day, rarely does anything take longer than 5 days.

I should add, that here in PHX we have 5 or 6 monstrously large Amazon distribution centers, so transportation miles and handling are at a minimum... the farthest DC that I have received items from is Vegas.
With freight (everything we haul is palletized), each time a person handles it is an opportunity for damage. With packages and all of the conveyor systems in the past, when a logjam happens, physics take over... a five pound package will not handle a 60 pound package assault. The conveyor systems are far more advanced just within the last few years with scanners and sensors to greatly reduce problems that were common in the past.... We pick up at REI’s distribution facility, and it is pretty crazy with all the warehouse routing technology....Amazon is highly restrictive, so I don’t see a lot of that process.

Not crazy about it, but I'll pay the extra. I use it as lot and Prime Video is only getting better.

Prime video is what I watch 98% of the time, so that alone is worth it to me.

Amazon relies on the Post Office for delivery in rural areas. It seems to me they have written off rural residents as far as Prime goes. I did have a trial membership years ago. My internet speed was not fast enough to stream programing. The Post Office was not able to speed up delivery so there is no point in joining. It is clearly a program for the cities.

Rome wasn't built in a day, John. That is a nice photo to see and brings back fond memories of one of my old neighbors, Elijio Archuleta. Elijio has gone to glory but left a lasting memory. He looked a lot like Eddie Albert- blue eyes, grey hair and "Green Acres" was his favorite TV show. It seems he used to talk about the show when it was on. The problem was Elijio did not speak English well since there was little need to here back then. So, he pronounced "Acres" as "Ach-rez", the Spanish pronunciation. His nickname, and most of the men here had nicknames, was "Green Acres". As in "You, go tell Green Acres his water will be released this evening." I enjoyed seeing that photo and get the point.

I use Prime constantly. I am still a big fan of supporting the local guy, but let's face it... very little of what we buy can be bought from the "local" guy anymore. Most of it is big box anyway and the benefit of being able to get everything in one order with one click, without having to drive to 3 different places is too good to pass up.

Also, I ordered a tire on Amazon...

I checked their price on the tires I have on the Ford F-250 and it was the same as I pay in Taos. Except with amazon I would have to pay extra for tire balancing and mounting. So, it is not a deal by any means. I did see tire brands I am not familiar with for less money than I usually pay. Same size and ratings.

I have found Walmart very competitive on tires, and mounting and balancing are cheap...their website shows what is in stock at any given location, you buy online and they hold them until you bring the car in. Much cheaper than Discount tire.

If we are talking tires, there's just no competing with Discount Tires. They may not always be the cheapest. But they often are.
Pricing aside, their service is second to none in my experience. I travel on the road a lot and they've gotten me out of a lot of tire trouble. Surprisingly, the flat is repaired at no charge...whether I'm in my own vehicle or a rental or a loaner vehicle. Free. Period.
I dont mind rewarding any business that's that customer-friendly with my patronage.

Prior to that experience...Talking to a buddy that manages a pit crew for outlaw racing, he told me that he has seen them overdrive the nuts on, then using the torque wrench to adjust. They are friendly...free flat repair regardless of where you buy the tire, but they are commissioned to upsell...yeah you don't have to agree to the charges but a lot do....smart marketing on their part. I have spoke to Bruce Halle, founder of DT (RIP) a few times through my wife's work in...he was a great guy, and quite benevolent...and his generosity lives on after he exited the stage.

The only thing they have ever tried to "upsell" me was the tire protection. And that's only when I have bought a tire there. That protection is the extra coverage against road hazards and irreparable damage to the tires. I believe this is normal from a tire shop as I have experienced it at other places, too. Although no place was ever pushy about it, including Discount Tire. A single "No, not interested" from me and we moved on every time, every store. I've never had a DT rep try to upsell me anything else, whether I was there to buy tires, for a flat repair, or for their free maintenance. I have been in DT stores all over TX, NM, AZ, and Colorado over the last 20 years or so. Maybe it's a regional thing or maybe I've just been lucky.

I catch up on a bunch of shows that I missed the full seasons of. Recently I've watched every season of American Horror Story, up to Apocalypse. Yesturday, since I was home all day, I watched a lot of the old (black and white, original) Addams Family series. Mmmm mmmm mmmm Morticia! There are a bunch of shows and a ton of movies, new and old.
