I tried Crooner and really disliked it. The Deer tongue was way too herbaceous for me. The tobacco was fresh and I did not finish the bowl. I let it sit for a couple of months and wow, what a difference. It's absolutely delicious. The flavors melded and now looking forward to trying C&D Gentleman Caller for more of this mysteriously tasty green leaf. The vanilla like flavor just needed some time for the flavors to marry with the nutty burley. I am now a fan.

Moral of the story is always to go back and try some of the stuff you didn't like.
Glad you didn't dump it.

I didn't like it when I tried it either. Maybe I need to give it another try.

I didn't like it when I tried it either. Maybe I need to give it another try. The Deertongue was overpowering when the tobacco was fresh. I immediately hated it but didn't throw it out. Today I filled a cob and we are talking night & day. Maybe my body chemistry was off that day, but it was a real tasty bowl today.

...not to everyone's taste, but I like it for what it is...

I got a jar of it from Wolfman in a trade, I really like it...I didn't realize that it had deertongue in it, this is my first exposure to it, but i opened the jar and can identify deertongue even with my corrupted sense of smell.
Not sure how old it is.

Back when vendors could send out free samples, MARS consistently included Gentleman Caller samples. Didn't knock me out, but I smoked them all.

Some blenders went away from using Deer Tongue (and Tonquin Bean) due to possible health concerns.
The replacement they use is called Coumarin ... the chemical responsible for that "vanilla" flavor.
