So I've been smoking a pipe for over a year now and for most of that time, my dad has been mulling over getting a pipe but I've got some significantly younger siblings (8,3 and 2 not to mention the 13 and 14) and so he hasn't really had the finances to put down on a nice piece of briar. I've decided this year to solve that for him and get him a nice pipe for Father's day. Trouble is I'm not sure what to get him so I thought I might survey some suggestions. Looking to stay in the $100-$175 range.

P&C Special is 15% off all pipes in inventory. Use code: PIPEDREAM at checkout.

Buckeye pipes are probably the most under the radar pipes out there. 120 to 200 gets you an artisan quality pipe with all the proper engineering and they're sold by Premal from smokers haven. I have one I picked up for a song and it smokes like a champ, wide open draw and a great looker. There are quite a few at americanpipemakers.com right in your price range.

...Savinelli would be another great pipe for consideration...

SP has almost 1500 Savinelli pipes in that price range. Reliable, and I personally have never had a bad one (I own 7 Savs). And with SP you get the pipe pictured and normally around the same price even with the sale at PC, but you don’t get the pipe in the photo at PC, but one like it in that line. Paul’s Cayugas are also good in that range, but the offering online is about 10% of what they have in the store (same with just about every brand of pipe you could imagine). You’re going to get A LOT of recommendations. With your price range your options will be almost limitless. My only suggestion is a tried and true brand. Finally, as mentioned, American pipe makers does have some in that range and also good quality, albeit on the lower end of artisan pipes.

What a great idea. My dad smoked mostly Savinelli’s and I’ve got some. Some of his too. They’re relatively inexpensive and well made. I’m also a fan of Petersen pipes. I could go on, but those are my recommendations. You’re a good son.

I was going to suggest savinelli, peterson and Stanwell. They have pipes around the £60 mark, which would be well within your budget.

at SP, 2 best buys (at 1/2 off) are: Peterson Summertime series and Savinelli Venere* rusticated. Both in the low $70's.
On direct comparison, the briar stock used for the Venere line looks exactly like the briar used in the Bing rusticated.

I've been checking out the pipes from Vermont Freehand. Nice looking and appear to be well made; plus the money is right. Their bent Rhodesians have my interest. vermontfreehand.com/vermont-freehand-pipes/For Italian pipes I can recommend Mastro Beraldi. I have 8 of them and, IMHO, I think they are better than Savinelli (of which I have over a dozen). Each pipe is unique and the workmanship is excellent.

I think a Sav. or a Pete. would be nice. Good starter pipe
