Hi all! I haven’t been around here much in the past several weeks. I had a big burst of work travel and have spent 3.5 of the past 6 weeks on 3 work trips to Europe in addition to going to the Chicago Pipe Show. I’m currently between flights on my way home from Sweden. Once I am caught up on my sleep, I’ll be back to being a regular around The Patch as I don’t expect any more trips for a while.

Yo joh
I've enjoyed your updates and semi-fondly recall my years as a road warrior. Every time I felt sorry for myself, I would look around the airplane or airport and realize that most there paid real money to be there and (also) had something that needed doing. Def First World Problems. Hope you didn't have schedule conflicts with pipe meetings.

With so much time in Europe he is likely now an omelette man! Most of my time was spent in Sweden and they don’t eat eggs for breakfast there.

...after 38 years of travel domestically and internationally, I know how you feel...welcome back... My brother did the same for several years, it can be a really tough job to do...time zones, jet lag, trapped in a cylinder with other people having colds, security hassles, schedules....not for the faint of heart. Welcome back, John!

Was this the round where you went to Paris? If so, how did you find the pipe culture?

Was this the round where you went to Paris? If so, how did you find the pipe culture? Paris was the first of the three trips in six weeks. I didn't find pipe culture. I didn't get to any pipe shops and I didn't see any other pipe smokers. However, Paris is smoker friendly in that you can sit at outdoor seating in cafes and bars and smoke.

Although this was a big burst of travel of 3 trips to Europe in 6 weeks, it was a return to my old hardcore road warrior lifestyle. Back when I was attached to Sales, I spent 50%+ of my time on the road and flew 100,00 miles a year. Now that I am out of Sales for the past four years, I am normally down to about 5 trips a year and about 30 to 35,000 air miles a year. I already have my 1,000,000 mile status on Delta; I don't need 2,000,000 mile status.
