You may or may not know, but this forum is setup in a somewhat organized, common sense fashion. (Insert smart arse comments here) The intent being to keep Threads categorized so that newcomers can sort through the Forum Index and find Boards relevant to topics they are interested in, and then threads related to those topics.
I have spent the last hour moving threads around into more appropriate locations, since the trend seems to be people using the General Discussion or General Pipe Smoking Discussion Board. For the record... I'm still not done.
Please, spend the time to look for the Board that is appropriate for your Thread topic. It takes all of 3 minutes to do so. If you look at the Forum Index, you will see that every Board has a general description of what belongs in it. Let me provide some examples of proper Board selection:
Thread Title: Smoking Meats... proper location, Cooking Eating & Imbibing... not General Discussion.
Thread Title: Making My Own Perique... proper location, Tobacco & Tad... not General Pipe Smoking Discussion Thread Title: Tobacco Sale at SP.com... proper location, Pipe Community - News & Events... not The News Room.
Thread Title: Time for My Yearly Colonoscopy... proper location... some other forum.
When in doubt, just give one of the Moderators a shout. I don't mind moving a few around here and there, because it's not always obvious where something should go. As much as I think you should all be able to read my mind about what I intended, I know that's not how it works.
Thanks

... But then you'd be bored.
In all seriousness, I try to do this. Not anyways successfully.

Many years ago I set up a new file server for my company, with folders for every department. Once it was up and running I took a much needed one week vacation. When I returned, to my horror, I had discovered that through a directory services loophole, I had given the department heads access to the root directory. This was the end of the organized drive, and the cork could never be put back in the bottle. They created many important sub folders at root, with cross linked files, and no matter what I did over the next several years, they just kept creating new folders at root. If I blocked them, they complained to management so much that the boss said he didn't care, just as long as they shut up their squealing. I finally solved the problem by retiring.

And I thought this thread should be under “Repair, Restoration, and Maintenance”
After all, that is what took place.

I tend to go to the recent thread option so I rarely notice what forum area it's in. One of the best things about this forum is how many more features it has compared to some other archaic sites.

Bumping this thread again...
Post a weekly thread of offenders, a roll of shame. That would paper train everybody in quick order, save some of your time and shouldn't be required as often afterwards. Hope I'm not on it, gulp.

Thanks, Justin, for bumping this thread. I may have been guilty myself on occasion, but some of the crap-ola that shows up in the wrong place around here puzzles me.

I like Mark's 'roll of shame' idea. One way to do that could be for a forum admin to temporarily substitue this as the offenders avatar...

Perhaps most of us use the 'recent threads' tab, in which case we don't always notice where new threads are created. Maybe we're reading a post and something comes to mind so we hit 'create' thread. That happens from time to time...
...and that's fine IF the thread in which you're posting is in the correct section of the forum. In some cases, it isn't.
However, to keep things nice and tidy, I am moving around 1 thread per day. Most of you may not notice any change if you're using the 'recent threads' section, but they ARE being changed. I'm just not telling people anymore because it's happening more often.
So as a gentle reminder...When you're going to start a thread, take a wee look and see what section best describes the topic of your post. That would be awesome.
Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

I've seen some of that lately, posted in different sections, just make sure we know about whatever it is the OP wants from us. It's not necessary.
