Tried a peterson with p-lip today... I'm not a fan. My own lip blocked the hole.
If you own any, what are your thoughts?

They just take getting used to. VG if your a clencher. Took me awhile to adjust (probably what your experiencing). I hook the bit behind my teeth, so no blocking of the bit.

I like the way they look, but not being a clencher either I'm not sure I'll try one.

Were they originally meant for clenchers?

I thought they were intended to keep the flow of smoke off the tongue. So I suppose you might get upper palate bite instead of tongue bite. That said, I think they are ugly, and like Dave, I am a holder as well. So--none in my future.....

I have two P-lips won’t be buying any more.
I get roof bite easier than tongue bite.... the shape does accommodate clenching and dangling.

I almost got roof bite, and almost tongue bite too, but I think it's cos I had to draw harder... Either that or practically put the stem half way down my thoat to allow for the smoke to get through.
Not sure I'll smoke this pipe much again... It's a military mount though. Is it possible to get a non p-lip stem?

It's a real advantage on EBay if your OK with them.

I get smoke over and under the tongue. I changed my puffing after Muttonchop Piper did a bit on it. I didn't copy this. Just adjusted

I have 5 Pete's with the p-lip. I have no problems with them. They do take some getting use to.

I like the p-lip. I find they are great for clenching. Truculent Frogs' answer is the key to smoking them.

I'm a clencher and I love my Petey Boy. I may have to give one a try.

I burned my tongue and lips twice today, first with scalding coffee then with a Mexican casserole. Maybe I will smoke a p-lip tomorrow. It's going to be that or nothing.

Thanks guys. I'll keep it in my rotation, but I'm not sure I'll smoke it often. It IS a nice pipe though.

Don't like them. The button of the stem is just too big/thick and feels uncomfortable in my mouth.

For me, makes for a nice change-up. Puff lightly, smoke slow either way...

One of my first premium pipes was a Donegal Rocky apple with a p-lip bit - I learned to like it as well as normal fishtail bits. I actually prefer fishtails and if given the choice will buy them instead of the p-lip. But I don't have any problems smoking the p-lips that I already have.

I tend take take a little more care so as not to focus the opening on any one roof spot for too long, basically just as I do with any other bit aimed at the tongue. And sometimes use a filter to tame the burn of a hot blend - really don't find much degradation in flavor, if at all.

I have one and use it with harsher and stronger blends.

...owned a few over the years, sold or traded away... don't care for the *system* either, but I love my Petes with no system and a fishtail...
