Well, due to my burnt tongue and lips, I smoked 2 different p-lip Pete's today, and they worked as advertised. I usually don't think about it when I am smoking one, but today it was really nice and kind to my tongue. The tobaccos tasted a little different than they do in their usual pipes, but that could just be the burnt tongue. Very few pipes smoke as well as a well broken in Peterson. P-lip or not.

And yet I've heard a few bad reports about bad drilling etc. in Petersons. They must be the exceptions rather than the rule.

The P-lip works as designed for me, since tongue bite 'can' be an issue. I've adjusted my style over the years to greatly reduce / nearly eliminate tongue bite...but the P-lip is still offers a very welcome function for me.
If any of you have Pete stems you don't want...let me know. I may just have you send me your pipe and I'll fit it with a fishtail for you as a swap for the p-lip stem.

A lot of people just can't accept that a properly drilled Peterson is OK, because they don't do it like anyone else. They have been doing it that way for about 164 years. A lot of people "know" too much.

A lot of people "know" too much. The improper drilling comments have been to recent productions only. There's been enough of those comments that I suspect some of it is true since the last three or four years Peterson really stepped up production, and there have been complaints not only about drilling, but stains inside the bowl and stains bubbling up as well. I have 15 Petes, three of which are pre-republics, and all of them, even the system pipes, smoke well with no issues. But none of mine are recent productions, and I doubt I'd buy one of those. Then again, I'm not currently buying pipes either.

I just noticed the spelling mistake in the thread title... Whoops. That's what a p-lip can do to one's pronunciation if not careful... 🙃

I thought I posted a reply already, hummmm, another senior moment..
Anyway, I thoroughly enjoy my Kinsale XL23 P-lip pipe, which I dedicated to Penzance.
