My son is a Marine, tough as nails... When he was deployed, he wrote me about a mission he was going on in the sandbox on a particular mission he wasn’t sure if he was going to make it out alive, so he asked me to not mention it to my wife, but asked for prayers. He made it out, but lost some buddies. He got back home, had some issues, but one night told me why he had some of them moments. “Dad, when I was over there, ( different mission) we were tasked with an extraction effort, the mission was changed to a recovery... I saw massive graves of bodies of children, mothers, fathers and grandparents that were brutally murdered.... it broke my heart, but I knew it was arse kicking time, and we did so. Fast forward to now... even as a kid, he always hacked up crud.. finally the VA decided that the tonsils were the culprit. So they cut them out a week ago, three days later he was in a civilian ER, coughing up a lot of blood. It stopped on it’s own, and they sent him home. Today, he told his wife that he was driving himself in, because he feared she would drive too slow, and he didn’t want the baby to be in the car... the doctor said that had he put it off for a few hours he would have been dead. He coughed up so much blood, and an artery was severed, that he was in dire straits. Sedated for the next 24 hours, my turn at sentry duty. Prayers appreciated and coveted. m.imgur.com/a/NPqzSZK

All my thoughts and prayers are with you, Charlie. Was this artery damaged during the tonsil surgery and worsened over time?

All my thoughts and prayers are with you, Charlie. Was this artery damaged during the tonsil surgery and worsened over time? He was initially told to just drink ensure, but after the first ER visit and then referred to the VA , the Dr. said he should start eating regular food. Now they think the regular food hit an artery...My son in law had a tonsillectomy as an adult and was on a liquid diet for two weeks.

Oh my word, trailboss. I'm so sorry to hear that. My wife's a theatre nurse and she's told me of the risks of bleeding after a tonsillectomy. My prayers are with your son and the family.

Thanks guys, I am impressed by the staff here at the VA... this hospital was ground zero for shenanigans some time back, it looks like they turned the ship around.
They have my son strapped down because a person naturally wants to pull the tube out of the airway, he is pretty heavily sedated, but he seems to understand their commands, and seems to be glad that someone is here.

Thanks Dan!
For being a non smoking campus, there are a lot of smokers smoking here, particularly staff members.... and they have designated smoking areas on the “tobacco free campus”. I talked to a cigar smoking WWII vet about it, and he said that all he’ll would break loose if anyone ever told him he couldn’t smoke.
He still seems like a tough old bird, he is a Marine that fought in the pacific island campaign.
“You know smoking is hazardous, don’t you?” I told him... he got a good laugh, told me “Chesty smoked a pipe”.... I said, he sure did.

Thanks guys, I am impressed by the staff here at the VA... this hospital was ground zero for shenanigans some time back, it looks like they turned the ship around. Recently, I was part of an inspection team that went to the VA to give the Laboratory their accreditation for this year. We were very impressed with the lab and the whole place in general ... much better than in the past. As for smoking, even an oxygen tank strapped to them doesn't stop these guys! Glad to hear things are still going in the right direction and continue to send all the best.

Thanks Dino!
They pulled the tube, he can finally talk.
He said that he thought that he was going to die on the way to the hospital, he coughed up three bags of blood throwing them out the window. Passing cars in rush hour with his flashers on... some cars thought he was being an A-hole and tried to block him from passing on the right... some moved out of his way when they saw his bloody arm and blood on the door. The cops saw him and waved him on as he sped through an area where a hazmat wreck took place.
He got the the VA ER, stumbled in and gave his bloody keys to the VA cop on duty and immediately coughed up three more bags of blood.
Everyone on staff agrees that it is remarkable he survived... I know that he received at least 3 pints in a transfusion.
Doing much better now.
