Everywhere I go to get Presbyterian, its always out a stock. So I baught the Presbyterian Match. Anyone know about the differances between the two? Hoping it's as good as regular Presb.

I'm about to open Match Presbyterian later today; I'm a fan of Presbyterian but find that the Match doesn't smell the same (some how it smells 'lighter' and less 'woody'), I've yet to try it. I agree that it is a hassle to obtain Presbyterian though.

Looking forward to your comparisons. I've been curious about the match. But apparently there's a new distribution arrangement, and the real stuff is supposed to be regularly available now. At least after people start realizing there's no need to stockpile.

I have yet to try Presbyterian mixture, but it seems to be readily available in the Uk and the match isn't, so it's a moot point for me.

The Presbyterian proper is the gods' gift to us pipe smokers. Unfortunately, it's no longer available here in Denmark,
so I have to get it from Germany.

If Presbyterian Mixture isn't available, you may like Peterson Old Dublin. I'm a Presbyterian fan, but actually like Old Dublin better. IMHO, Presbyterian is smoother while Old Dublin is fuller and has more Latakia, but not excessively so. Basma leaf is the star of both.

Tomorrow I'm paying a visit to The Danish Pipe Shop to pick up a new stem for my Peterson 312, so Old Dublin sounds like a suitable tobacco to try.

I would have thought old Dublin is quite a lot heavier with respect to the latakia.
It would be interesting to see how others compare it.

The Match doesn't combine flavors as well as the original but is the lightest noblest English you could imagine. It's an all day smoke that is too light in flavor to switch off to a stronger blend and come back to it. In all honestly it's going to grow on me but regular Presbyterian is better.

A great review and very helpful. Gives me an idea going in, and what to expect. I still have one new unopened tin of Presb, that I will use to break in my new Stanwell. So I'm hoping I can use the Presb-match after that, to keep the original taste and smell going a long time. What about taking a pinch or so of the original and mixing it in the match?
