When I was a little guy my Grandfather used to take me fishing at a small lake outside my home town.Grandpa is long gone and I live about an hour from there now .The other day I thought I might like to ride up and go fishing there again to honor his memory.I did some checking. Now the lake is part of an exclusive country club.Restricted to members only.I guess things change over time.I just wish it wasn't so hard for an old man to adjust to some of them.

That sucks. I know it's not the same, but is there another lake like it where you could relive some of the memories?

I was very close with one of my grandfathers.....my Dad’s father. Even at the age of 17 I still wanted to spend the summer with him. Ride the Brooklyn subway, go to Coney Island, and much more!!! So, I kind of understand what a day at that lake fishing would mean to you. You might be surprised when/if you give it a shot and ask...” my grandfather and I use to fish at this lake when I was a young boy. It would mean so much to me if I can do that one more time in my life“. I bet you’d be surprised when your told....” go make a day of it, enjoy the memories “. Something very similar happened to me back on Long Island where I grew up.....my one wish was granted.

You've probably done so, but if you have pictures, get out the album and smoke a bowl to his memory and positive influence on your life. I smoke commemorative bowls to those who have gone down the road ahead of me when I am in a remembrance mood.

I agree, I'd ask if they would allow you to go fish again, couldn't hurt. Country club folks have hearts.
I spent all the time in the world with my grandfather's. I dont think I'll have to worry about our fishing spots closing or going private. My spot with my dad's father is a pond behind the house that has been family owned FOREVER. The spots with my mom's dad were Lake Michigan and Lake Erie.

Same here my Grandfather took me everywhere, my favorite was Holly Beach, a Cajun resort on the Gulf, loved his 40 Ford truck, learned to drive it at 10, could barely see over the windshield.

Did a very similar thing with my son last year. Snuck through a cornfield to an old gravel pit I used to pull bass out of only to discover it's now a private lake with houses on it. Got a few casts in but the no trespassing sign carries more fear when your a grown arse man. Everything changes, and changes again.

You might want to check your states water access rights. There are federal access rights also. It's getting to be a bigger and bigger problem for the public to get access even to the beach.

North Carolina and knowing a bit about your age Larry, I immediately thought of:
I agree with the others, I am sure that the powers that be at the CC, would be more than happy to accommodate you.
