I've been thinking about taking advantage of the father's day 15% off sale, but so far haven't found anything that really takes my fancy. I almost pulled the trigger on one of the Stanwell Black Diamonds which are already $50 off, but I'm not sure I really like them all that much (or the silver band).
They seem to have tons of "off" brands that are probably just basket pipes - but anything nice and at a bargain price you'd recommend?

Most P&C private brands remind me of basket pipes. I got one with three different tobaccos. Smokes ok but is very heavy and the bit is a lot larger than I.m use to. A grade above Dr. Graybows for sure.
I’ll stick with my Edwards, Savenelli, cobs, and restored Peterson. Love my restored vintage pipes. Stem & Briar did a fantastic job. May try a bones soon just for the heck of it. My pipes are like life long friends...so I’ll stick with what works viewing it as a long term investment. When I was young my uncle told me never buy cheap tools. I try to apply that to everything long term. But if the pipe is calling you...go for it. You may discover a diamond in the rough. Enjoy!

The best deals there are when they close out a name brand model. I picked up 2 Butz Choquin Pokers, designed by Pierre Morel and 2 Big Ben Gold Medal Dublin. The best quality I found in their sea of Other pipes, were the BR/Borkum Riff offerings and they are decent and worth a look if on sale.

Tough to beat unfinished Savs, Lumberman and 320 KS are my favorites. Three years ago I purchased my Savinelli unfinished Billiard and after I gave it a coat of my mixture of bee’s wax & mineral oil I then noticed the pipe had 11 fills. The pipe should have been sold as a throw out! Of course P&C would not exchange the pipe because I coated the briar, even though the pipe should not have been sold in the first place! BUT.....turns out the pipe is an excellent match for one of my favorite blends....John Patton’s Storm Front. So, the pipe is “ fugly “ but who cares....I purchased it to be a work horse and that it is👍👍 After each smoke ( by now over 600 ) I use a microfiber cloth coated with my mixture. The briar is a rich dark chocolate color and those 11 fills really pop out😀😀😀

Smokes Mac Baron Va #1 like a dream and the fills are a badge of courage.

We both agree on that. But in actuality the batch should have read....” may have many fills “.

If you didn’t notice the fulls beforehand, that probably was the case for the people that inventoried that pipe into P&C’s inventory.... or a good possibility.

I'm still not over the fills in my Peterson Christmas pipe. First World problem, I know, but higher end pipes should damn well look like they are.

FWIW, I've had good luck with Baraccinis and Big Bens. The Baraccini would be more of a 'sleeper'.
