My Savory's Mayfield Pot arrived, and it's in great condition. I only needed to sand out the cake. Not much else. That said, now I need to fill it with something. Any type of blends that smoke best out of a wide bowl? This thing is 7/8" straight down.

This will be no help at all--but I have trouble keeping a pot burning. And I tend to get an uneven burn when I do manage. I will keep checking in on this thread to see what kind of advice you get.

Blends with multiple leaf types and not too Virginia forward ... English blends fit the bill for me.

Blends with multiple leaf types and not too Virginia forward ... English blends fit the bill for me. I ALMOST filled it up with Quiet Nights, but reached for the Escudo instead. It's working out ok. Lots of relights though. I think I'll go for the Quiet Nights next time. Definitely not good for a heavy burley. I think that would be a very bad idea indeed...

Personally for me itโs any flake tobacco. Especially Solani ABF and Rattrayโs Marlin Flake I notice a BIG difference with the complexity of the tobacco.

For me the English blends work best in larger bowls.

Burley blends do best in a wide bore and Virginias in a narrow bowl for me.

Burley blends do best in a wide bore and Virginias in a narrow bowl for me. For me I feel the same, but everyoneโs palate is different. Besides, Iโm a Burley lover.

My ยข2 worth...... Smaller bowls for Virginias, tall bowls for Flake, and large bowls for English blends

Ah! Wide Tobacco? Uncharacteristically, I did not see that one coming. A pox upon my house.

I've read that English blends smoke best in wide bowls. My dad smoked an English blend and only had pots, so there must be something to it.

the new Amphora Virginia Blend smoked in Pots has been working for me.
Sidebar: The Pot, like Oom Paul's seem to go in and out of fashion.

Penzance is always the correct answer. Street scene:
"Excuse me, Sir, could you tell me what time it is..? Penzance. Thank you very much, Sir."
(Walks away, adjusting his watch).

Precisely. It is always time for Penzance. I can just see the TV ad, with the above as a closing line, and hear a background jingle made from Gilbert & Sullivan's "The Pirates of Penzance".
