I know, this type of thread is annoying. But, I have an open cart at SP of 9 tobaccos, but I hate wasting money. I have a couple restock items, and these that I haven't tried: Sutliff RR/flying Dutchman/revelation matches, Sutliff j4 burley, C&D Virginia Gentleman, Cult Blood Red Moon, and RLP6. Anything I don't need to bother with? Anything anyone would recommend instead? I'm not huge on lat bombs, and English blends are ok, but not my fave. I like VaPers, VaBurs, interesting aromatics, burleys, aromatic burley blends, and crossovers best. Get me out of my comfort zone, maybe. I usually try to buy 1oz to test things out, but I'll go for a tin if need be.

I don't find this type of thread annoying since it's so hard to know what to try when there are 1,000 tobaccos out there. Taste is different for each person so I think that your purchase of 1 oz. blends is a good one. But, I'd add that trading tobacco (and/or joining a pipe club) is going to help you find your favorites. Good luck!

Ok, this thread is annoying I think you'll do fine with the Match Flying Dutchman and Match Revelation. Since you're in the aromatic arena, I would include some bulk Mac Baren Scottish Mixture. I would probably include some Mac Baren Golden Extra too. For myself, I think these are two very fine blends to have in your rotation. Good luck on the purchase...

And just to make it interesting, I'll replace it with a tin of your choice if you do not agree.

I agree with the 1oz bags. Load up on different types of tobacco and go back and order more of the ones you like.
If you want a name, Presbyterian mixture seems to be going down well. Throw that in for a laugh.

The ones you have listed are all good tobaccos; they have good reviews. I would recommend that you try them all. I recommend Peterson Founder's Choice if you can find it. It is the same blend as their 2015 St. Patrick's Day blend. Also have you tried the Samuel Gawith and Gawith Hoggarth blends?

Only thing additional I would add is if you’ve tried the Cult Red Blood and really enjoyed this blend like I have, purchase as many tins as you can. When Cult Profile was released a friend gifted me a tin. I enjoyed the blend so much I “ really “ stocked up! Glad I did because Profile has been out of stock for months. Don’t know if it will be produced again so I’ve been told. The trade suggestion is the way to go! Taste is subjective and everyone’s Ph is different. A blend that one pipe smoker drools over may end up being horrendous to you. Good luck 👍👍👍

My opinion. Only my opinion. Cult Blood Red Moon is very cherry. I really like it for that, it is very good at that, but it is so specific its like a painting of a duck. It always looks like that same darn duck. Now when you want to see a painting of a duck, there it is, might as well have an excellent one, but not all the time. I mean, unless you like ducks. I have taken to Cult Abacus. It seems to fit a lot more often in my many moods. Just something else to try. Now, Blood Red Moon is a way to win friends and influence people. It makes a room smell marvelous. A have friends who are anti-smoking and have come in the house after I have had a pipe of BRM and have asked what I am baking that smells so good.

Just get a few from the top of the list each month until you get to try everything of interest to you.

Cult Red Blood to me is far better than their very cherry. The Cult version has a deep rich nature cherry 🍒 flavor. I do agree it makes a room or even if smoked outside smell simply devine 👍👍👍

I did not mean to reference Lane's Very Cherry. That was inadvertent. I have never tried it.
I meant that the cherry in BRM is not in the background, its right there. Unashamedly.
The only other cherry tobacco I have had was a tobacconists store blend, so its not a fair comparison. BRM is sooooooooo much better than that was. BRM is a tobacco for adults, with sophisticated developed tastes, who like cherry. My only point is that a tobacco with a specific focused taste like that gets less play in my rotation, only because I have to be in the specific mood to crave that flavor.
Whereas something like Cult Abacus goes with a lot of different smoking situations rather well.
But in my limited experience I cannot deny that BRM does cherry right.

Also you got it....BRM too me is the only good cherry blend on the market today. That MacBaron Ambrosia for me is horrendous!

For vafiety and a different taste profile, you might try some 1 ounce samples of Stokkebye: Natural Dutch Cavendish and Sutliff: Natural Cavendish.

It's funny how you see 1oz as samples. I have always viewed them as a standard size. Our b&m mostly stocks that size of tobacco.

I'm stocking up next time I stateside... Who knows when that will be. what gets me is $2.00/oz for bulk and $10 for 1.75 or 1.5oz tin. I realize some stuff doesn't come bulk, and that's cool, but an extra $8 is absurd for a "tin". Especially if you end up packing a bunch of it in Mason jars anyway. I get cellaring unopened tins, but I guess since I'm not at that point yet, it annoys me.

Some premium blends that are available in bulk are $5/oz, so for premium quality tobacco its not that bad to buy a tin.

Okay! So, I got everything on my list, plus Stokkebye Natural Dutch Cavendish, And Distinguished Gentleman
One of the SP reviews about Distinguished Gentleman read, "I opened the tin and to me the tin note is... odd. Interesting, weird perhaps. Bizarre I don't think is too strong of a word. Like if you put some flowers through a juicer, stems and all, and then mixed your flower juice with some cough syrup. Off-putting isn't too strong of a term either. Not going to lie, I was worried, but I pressed on." - SOLD! The weirder the better. Now, if I could only get my hands on some Rattray's Exotic Orange...
