Here's what I got for fathers day. Just haven't gotten around to posting this, but I feel it's a little out of Nording's wheelhouse. Most Nording pipes I've seen and even owned a few of are freehand pipes, some fairly normal and others pretty wild and out there. This is from a series that have since been discontinued called Silver Series. Pretty much normal traditional pipe shapes with a small silver ring between the shank and the stem. Hardly seems like a Nording, but I like traditional shapes more than the usual freehand pipes. I didn't have a four square panel pipe, so when I saw this I couldn't resist. I think the square shank and stem accentuate the round sterling band a little more than a round shank. I'm not sure where these fall in quality or price in their lineup, but it smokes great. The finish is so-so and looks to be lacquered or something that makes it rather shiny, which I'm not a fan of. I have a Neerup pipe finished like that too, so I guess it's not uncommon for some of the newer Danish pipes. The stem while being comfortable is rather sloppily cut at the shoulders. The pipe was listed as used, but I could see no evidence of it being smoked. The bowl was coated, but the draft hole had no coloring at all, and there was no smell of smoke. At present it's the only Nording I own, but probably not the last.

WOW...thatβs a beauty. Not an oversized Freehand that Nording is known for! Itβs actually my type of pipe πππ. Enjoy for many years to come.

I spotted about 30 flaws. I'll give you a fiver for it if you float the postage. What are friends for, after all?

Looks like a winner to me. It's still unique in its own way but not extravagantly 'out there'. It's lovely.

Yes, great looking pipe. Not a fan of "far out" pipes myself, so this one is in the park.

Very nice, I like the idea of a round band on a square shank. Curious that they didn't 'register' the square stem to the shank closer; your up-close pic shows how far off the lines are. Still...it's very pretty.

Nording has a good philosophy, he wants you to have a good looking pipe at a reasonable cost, be it Freehand or Traditional. Congrats & Enjoy.

David, I like how you're always looking out for me!
Joeman, Yeah, that's one of the things that bugs me about the pipe. I may try to correct that if I can. Shouldn't be too hard if I go slow.

Hey guys, first of all thanks for all the input and complements. The fact that the silver ring is attached to the stem makes me think it's not a replacement, but then I could be wrong. After working on it I think I got the stem matching the shank about as good as it's going to get. Look better to you?

I remember seeing this series in full page ads in the early days of P&T.

If you ever get tired of this pipe...I WILL buy it off you. Haha! Great looking pipe. I love the rustic/polished combo. Very classy stuff.
The only thing that would drive me crazy is having the stem line up with the shank every time I cleaned it. I have a Peterson with a square shank/stem, and my OCD has almost driven me off a bridge trying to line it up peeeeeerfectly.

mrphillips, I perfectly understand the OCD issue. I have the same tendencies and that's what led me to fool around with the stem in the first place. And without the stem fitting up against the shank, you really have to spend some time eyeballing it to get it right!
