I bought this looking for a MC 5100 replacement. It comes in 1 lb factory ziplocked bags. I ordered 2 lbs and transferred to jars. It comes as a loose ribbon cut.
Aroma: hints of figs, oak, and zesty spices. Only a slight vinegar component when first opened.
Burn: it is fairly wet and should be slightly dried. It should be packed loosely since my first bowl impacted quickly probably due to the wetness. When packed loose it will burn to a clean ash.
Taste: Reminds me of Wessex Red Virginia in a loose form. No Vinegar taste at all. Should not be compared to 5100 but is a good standalone smoke or mixer.
I think this will age nicely and is a welcome addition to my cellar. I look forward to adding a little perique to suit my taste and maybe a little dark stoved also.
It appears to be available now and I was able able to pick some up for $24 a Lb plus shipping. Great deal for those needing a little red.
