Never figured i do this, but since enough in my life sort of know i figure i could use a few new ideals.
Im Matt from Wisconsin, come from a 3 generation family of smokers. Somehow was the only one to pick up a pipe. Started smoking late in 2012. Didn't formally pick up the pipe until Dumb and Dumber To came out.
Primarily smoke Borkum Riff as that was the blend that came with my starter kit. Average between 1-5 bowls a week.
Would love some more insight as to if i should diversify my pallate when it comes to tobaccos and pipes as i only smoke from 3 at that moment.

adding my greets/welcome from 50miles East of Buffalo, NY. Yes...greatest forum on the subject ever. As to diversity...I not really too comfy in recommend any specific blends to expand on. Would suggest branch out a little, try a few Virginias with a bit of perique, then to "English" with varying amounts of latakia. Join in the fun.....sure others will suggest what blends to start with.

Welcome to the forum!
Where are you located at?
If there is a pipe club nearby, it could provide you with a good opportunity to learn about a lot of different blends and smoking techniques. If not, you should go online and order bulk samples by the ounce.... I think that once you are exposed to other tobacco’s, you will never want to smoke Borkum Riff again..... I don’t mean that derogatorily, that is how a lot of us started.

Welcome to the forum. You'll find a lot of information from a great group of people from every walk of life here.
As far as tobacco goes, the possibilities are endless. For me, and what I've read from so many others, we all tend to find something we like but continue to try to find something different as well. Some stick to a blend of 2, some smoke many to taste every different flavor in many different blends. It all depends on what you want.
If it seems like a lot, a simple solution would be to check out our BoM (Blend of the Month) thread. 1 blend per month that some of us try and then talk about it. So far its helped me pin point some of the flavors I taste but have a hard time pin pointing.

Primarily smoke Borkum Riff as that was the blend that came with my starter kit. Average between 1-5 bowls a week. Treasure the days when things are simple and straight forward. Look back on these days fondly when, in the future you have 230 pipes arranged on the wall, tobacco cellered away enough to last you a few years, which is saying something considering you will be up to 1-5 bowls a day. Enjoy the journey.

welcome from Charleston, WV! since the majority of us have TAD (tobacco acquisition disorder) it is a given we recommend you diversify! Sir Walter Raleigh Aromatic will be a nice change of pace. This month on our Blend-of-the-Month thread we've been smoking and talking about Ampora Original, might be a good place to start
