Stumbled across this site this afternoon while goofing and thought it was very interesting. They have a nice selection of whole leaf tobacco, seeds and accessories. www.leafonly.com/pipe-tobacco-leaf/tobacco-leavesIt looks like it would be a lot of fun to mess around with. I ordered a sample of their St James Perique out of curiousity and thought I'd put it out there for everybody else.

My preference is wholeleaftobbaco.com but I'm partial as a member of their forum.

I’ve purchased leaf from both places mentioned above. You’ll have some fun and might even create a blend that’s outstanding at a very reasonable out of pocket cost. Have fun 👍👍👍

I get most of my whole leaf from Larry Butcher of Kentucky. He grows many different varieties himself and sells direct. thetobaccobutcher.com/

Charlie, I've smoked some Rustica from the Amazon ... they call it Mapacho. It was strong but nothing like the strength of Rustica in snuff form.

Those Red Tips are pretty strong! I have bought a couple of pounds of those and they are good for perking up a wimpy blend. Adds body too. He sent me a sample of Yellow Twist Bud but I haven't tried it yet. Is it a burley or a new variety?

YTB is considered a "white stem" Burley and produces large size leaves that supposedly air-cure easily.

Wondering which tobaccos would be good to start working with. I like the idea they have 1/4 lb samplers of the whole leaf and 1/4 lb of the scraps. Don't know where to start. Any pointers will be appreciated.

Grab some Burley, Virginia and Dark Fired ... good basic components to start with. Around 60% Burley / 30% Va / 10% DFK makes a nice basic Codger smoke. If I can make it to the meeting Wednesday, I'll bring some whole leaf for you and we'll plot on a master blend!
